Coco drip irrigtion advice

I like the topspin 12s, don't have problems with them not being even infact thats the whole point of having it set up like that! Their main selling point is the equal pressure and I think it is alot better than standard dripper fitting which cheap nasty and break easy with crazy uneven pressure.

Topspins need enough pressure to create equal pressure though. If you get a pump which is not powerful enough then yeah it won't work great. Simple to avoid really. I just upgraded to the high pressure 25mm version and it works an absolute treat.

Topspins also have an additional central filter and then filters on the connectors for each line. Stops the actual drippers clogging so you just open the central hub and clean that instead of each dripper.

Blumats Blumats Blumats ... look at the Patio Set, not the Jr's.

Elevate a 20 gal res a couple of feet.... dial the blumats in... go on vacation for a week.
coco, soil ... works great for both.

another option for soil (not ideal for coco unfortunately )is using sub irrigation but that takes up a few more inches of vertical room to setup.

Personally i don't think the blumats are any good for coco..You need to be getting run off with coco...Peace

Thats the one were talking about biggs there good bits of kit very easy to set up

The hardest part is dealing with the run off you dont want your plants sitting in run off
Combine the kit with an rta kit or danish trays and your good to go

I build my own dripper system and so far so good but I'm considering getting the top spin for my next setup. I grow in a 4x4 tray raised 1.5' with a tilt so the run off is collected in a 20Ltr waste tray below, the waste tray is a storage box that I picked up at a pound shop lol, 20% run off and the plants are exploding in growth, I'm not fully automated though, I like to flick the switch because of previous floods, I would always pick drippers over blumats but for my mother plants I think the blumats would be ideal. Great thread.

FYI, I've done two runs with the Blumats and coco (and a few more than that in soil). They were more of a bastard to dial in on the coco runs than in soil, but they worked, and worked well.. there is just more of a fine line between over-dry and wet. I personally found them best when set fairly wet. Didn't have the issues with salt buildup that you might get without runoff in coco usually, which I put down to the fact that the pots never have the chance to dry out.

What I've learned this run using blumats is that you should use lower strength nutes than you would normally, seems that feeding with blumats is akin to feeding from the base of the plant like stuppa does once roots have hit bottom of pots. I did however use regular strength nutes and little run off was produced by the blumats cause I dialled em in to do so by setting them to drip when the coco was soaked.

I wasn't going to use them again as I got a lil salt build up where a couple pots dried out quickly from being close to the oil rad, but after reading a few posts about nute strength and dialling in from the get go I think they'll be getting another run before making a decision on em. Gotta say though they are real easy to set up and dial in once u know what to do and look out for and they grew my plants well enough for me.... If I had tray set up so waste run off could be caught and big enough rez I'd be happy to leave em for a week or so knowing they'd be fine.

My water is hard as hell @ .5-.7 EC depending on which day it is lol. And I used headmasta and molasses through them and they didn't clog or miss a beat.

Yeah, most definitely. For me a tray underneath is absolutely vital.. the way I ended up setting them generally meant a very small puddle underneath a pot when you picked it up, as the coco was almost constantly saturated. Didn't have to use weaker nutes than usual, but then I only used them a couple of times, and with plants I wasn't totally familiar with too.

For the Blumats, how many drip emitters would you need for a 10g pot of coco (drain to waste continuous)? Would you only need 1 sensor per pot?

10g is a big pot man what ya growin trees joking aside, i would say 2-3 depending on what media you using coco has good wicking ability soil may be a different story but they would have to be setup exactly like the others in the pot otherwise you may run into problems
