EMPLOYED using Medical Marijuana and PASSING DRUG TEST

Yup, for years I kept an Rx of Marinol on hand, (when I was an "outlaw med user"), just in case; I always figured it was a good thing to have around...
I got the Rx originally to "treat" frequent nausea, associated with another Dx; (though I only found it helpful in very large doses and when taken at just the right moment, and even then, no where near the consistent and near total relief cannabis brings.)

...Needless to say, I didn't take it much, but I kept filling the Rx until I moved and got a med rec.

this seems like a good idea, but does anyone have a list of conditions that a non mmj state doc might prescribe it for?

im sitting here laughing to myself at the absurdity of the idea of this harmful synthetic being completely legal when the plant which effects it emulates is lumped in with deady illegal street drugs.

Joe chronic speaks the truth. I called my pot Dr told him i had a drug test for a job coming up and needed a script for marinol. Came thru 20-30 mins later and the lady at the front desk had it waiting for me. The Dr just waved hello.

And it worked just fine!

I'm in a mm state

A lot of the newer drug tests can detect differences between Marinol and marijuana. I guess it depends on how cheap your company is.

MEDICAL MARIJUANA

Although a growing number of states allow medical use of marijuana, they do not generally protect patients from drug testing. While some employers in medical marijuana states allow for medical marijuana, most do not, and those under federal regulations are specifically forbidden to do so. If marijuana were treated consistently with other drugs such as prescription amphetamines and opiates, medical users would be excused from positive drug tests if they had a doctor's prescription. State law in this area is evolving. While the California Supreme Court has ruled that the state's medical marijuana law does not protect patients from drug testing (Ross v. RagingWire), an Oregon appeals court has held otherwise. Further legal challenges seem likely as medical marijuana becomes more accepted.

One possible excuse for a positive marijuana test that sometimes works is a prescription for Marinol®, the FDA-approved synthetic marijuana pill that is currently available as a schedule 3 prescription drug. Marinol used to be indistinguishable from marijuana on both immunoassay and GCMS tests, creating a valid medical excuse for a false THC positive. However, some labs have begun to adopt a new technology that can distinguish Marinol from marijuana. Obnoxious as it may be for employers to fault employees for using marijuana instead of Marinol, use of Marinol can no longer be recommended as a technique for evading unfair drug tests.

I have a friend in law enforcement, and a Physician and others who have past their tests "hair and blood" with flying colors with the Marinol method.

Maybe applying for a job at NASA they might be able to run a variance test between Marinol and Cannabis but I would have to call bullshit !

Show me a place that runs a variance test between the two or show me a person who has flunked a test using the Marinol method.
Print is cheap and I am only offering advise from experience...

"The Marinol method" :bigeye: I like it!
And while I must admit, I find it kinda icky to 'lie' about a medical condition, sometimes we need a little civil disobedience.

I hear you !

Also lets hear if anyone has a problem with their medical marijuana doctor giving a Marinol script out.

* Remember, it will be much easier to obtain a Marinol prescription if you "first" have a medical marijuana recommendation...

Marinol 2.5 mg is available in 6 tablet script at Costco for $33.00

And when asking for Marinol look the Physician in the eye and let them know you're not a junkie or a little kid on a whim...

My mmj dr in san diego doesn't give marinol scripts. Another clinic I called wouldn't either but I do know of one dr in the area that will. I go to my dr because I know he has gone to court to support his patients. The dr that does do marinol Rxs is umm...let's call it eccentric

You are correct !
People without pain know nothing about it...

Interesting, did you ask him why he wouldn't write you one ?
Also, good to know you had a back up doctor who would write you one...

DoM-Marinol.jpeg
By Dale Gieringer, Ph.D, Director, California NORML
California NORML has recently heard increasing reports that Marinol patients are being drug tested and denied employment for use of marijuana. In particular, we have heard from legal Prop. 215 patients who were denied jobs despite presenting Marinol prescriptions after being re-tested specifically for marijuana. Until recently, Marinol and marijuana were indistinguishable on the standard drug tests, so that patients with a Marinol prescription had a valid medical excuse under federal law for testing positive for marijuana.
However, special testing techniques have been developed that make it possible to distinguish the two by testing for non-standard cannabinoids that appear in marijuana but not Marinol. Until recently, these tests were expensive and rarely used except in high-profile criminal cases. However, it appears that they are now being routinely used by certain laboratories in cases where Marinol use is claimed. In particular, we have heard reports of such testing being used to disqualify Marinol-using Prop 215 patients by the transportation industry and by Walmart.
California NORML has accordingly altered its drug testing information to warn against relying on Marinol RXs as a screen for marijuana use: http://www.canorml.org/healthfacts/testing.tips.html
There is of course no valid scientific or health justification for allowing patients to use Marinol but not marijuana. The only purpose is to enforce compliance with the law. It is a tribute to the power and influence of the drug testing industry that they have prevailed in foisting the costs of this unnecessary and obnoxious procedure on employers.

Most positives in the presence of reported Marinol prescription will be tested by GCS for other cannabinoids (mainly CBD) which are not found in Marinol. Most "legit" MMJ docs will prescribe a small amount to cover but it is useless now. The cost for samples to calibrate and compare on the GCS use to be very expensive so were not widely used but this is no longer the case. Don't want anyone out there to think they are covered and not be aware the situation has changed. Remember the above notice was released in 2008.

Peace

Very interesting read indeed !

It was however from 2008 and friends I have are passing their tests in 2010-2011 with Marinol in different fields of employment so they must not be doing too much variance testing these days for CBD ?

Anyway thanks for the link and if anyone else has some recent news of Marinol not working on a recent test please post up...

For those of you who are employed and have a Medical Marijuana recommendation or just smoke anyways and you fear of being fired for testing positive for Cannabis, here is your ticket out of trouble.

Have your Physician write you a prescription for "Marinol" 2.5 mg pills. (Marinol is a synthetic form of THC)

Marinol is FDA approved and you cannot be fired for testing positive for Cannabis. This way you just claim the Marinol and not the smoked Cannabis we all love and enjoy.

Marinol 2.5 mg is available in 6 tablet script at Costco for $33.00

That $33.00 will save your ass and your job.

Enjoy...

This is a viable, legal option. I have personally used this approach in the past, and it was successful. This strategy was actually published in Playboy magazine somewhere around 1997 where they laid out this approach to beating a drug test, so this certainly isn't new. I did arouse their suspicions when I showed up to my hair test with a porn star hair cut, but one of their employees was quick to interject "Yeah, my wife likes that too." They just gave me a cup instead...

I did have to sit down with their doc a few days later to present my Marinol script, and he was certainly skeptical as he hadn't dealt with this before. He even tried to bait me into a conversation about the failure of the drug war. I just stared blankly and said "So, do you need any other documentation here, or are we good?" Then he reversed the positive and let me go. I suspect that if I had opened my mouth, things might not have gone my way...just sayin, you have to play this approach carefully...leave your attitude at home, say nothing more than you need to.

, and I just told my doctor the truth about why I wanted it.

I would have tried the marinol defense.... never heard of it until today so I think it's pretty under the radar. thanks for the info.
