It seems scroogle is down for good, and research into that revealed this web site, is it the next best thing?

If not, what do you use? yahoo and google are not options from what I hear as they create logs of your every move online.

Ghostery sees the invisible web tags, bugs, pixels and beacons, tracks the trackers and gives you a roll-call of the ad networks, behavioral data providers, web publishers, and other companies interested in your activity. It allows you to block scripts from companies that you don't trust, delete local shared objects, and block images. It has lots of options
Available for most web browsers, its great for blocking data collection etc, and I use it for seeing who is collecting my info on different sites.

Beyond this and if you want to block everyone from seeing what your looking at online I've recently heard about VPN's (Virtual private network), that create a tunnel between you and your destination, which others cannot look in on.

I don't use anything other than Ghostery because I reckon if a pro wants to 'hack-me' or whatever it is, I don't have the knowledge to stop them.

Hope this is a little help.

I use Google

also if you're worried about the privacy concerning the mentioned search engines I would read this thread

https://www.icmag.com/ic/showthread.php?t=228887

It was very helpful to me.
thanks! Can you tell me what ABOUT it you found helpful? I found a shroomjr (or something similar) post that refers to a site which advises you switch something in your settings from 2 to 0. I did that. anything else? I have Ghostery but don't know how to use it, I thought it just sits there and does its own thing but don't know how to configure it. I also have noscript but have to allow Javascript here and lots of other places to get it to work right. Any and all further ideas and suggestions are welcome! thanks

this is what I mean! Maybe you don't need to avoid google if you have certain things installed/configured right, but I know little of such matters. I found TOR never works right for me and gave up trying and I know nothing about encryptions or proxies or all that, I just come here using the https version of this site. And yes I have been on yahoo right before or after being here, but won't no more! I don't use google at all (used to use scroogle), and facebook and twitter are useless mindrot and can kiss my big hairy, well you fill in the blanks! ;) :D

yeah I just discovered that today and wish I had used it all these years but I am using it now!

Well I followed the info in this post specifically

https://www.icmag.com/ic/showpost.php?p=4874635&postcount=5

I use firefox, if you do, then do a search on web developer and the first result on google should be what you need, also I got an add on called BetterPrivacy, for deleting those LSO cookies that were mentioned. With the web developer all you have to do is disable the referrers and set the BetterPrivacy to delete the cookies upon every exit and I think everything should be good.

That's funny, I searched on Google about Google being busted for tracking lol

I installed Ghostery into my Firefox browser. It is busily blocking tracking cookies etc.
Im surprised how many there are.
Using it on icmag I see that there is no tracking happening here. Go to the seedboutique page and I see that Google Analytics is trying to track my browsing .

yes I notice that too Capt.Ahab... lots of local TV station websites I frequent have that, and often I click "temporarily allow all" since I can't view the weather without a few of them. Once you revoke temporary permissions, Google Analytics and the like can no longer track you right? I have had Ghostery and BetterPrivacy for some time. I took care of that referrer thing, now all I have to do is set things to delete cookies on exit. peace

A good add on for Firefox is No Script. Once installed, all scripts are blocked. The interface allows the user to unblock objects, pages, domains or the whole web in one click. Typical browsing habits have to be cleared before your familiar sights load correctly. But once you know you're on a safe site, you can click one time and disarm whatever part of NoScript needed.

yiy! You posted that right as I logged on, taking me away from the thread I intended to post on and to the main page where I saw this thread as the most recently posted on... totally wild! Anyway, yeah man I have that too and it is great! I guess I am better armed against intrusions than I thought!

thanks, I was kinda bummed scroogle went down. It's been a little flaky for months.
yeah all this "we're so sorry" crap it got more than a little annoying to see that to say the least. if they were soliciting donations they could have at least been honest and said so.
