Germ'n and getting your seeds above ground technique

I use a variation of this method. I place them in paper towels and allow them to pop but as soon as they do I plant them. I do not let the tap root grow out as I feel this weakens the seedling. I only let the taproot grow to maybe 1/8" at most before planting. Plant at1/8" to 1/4" deep in medium. I mostly do this to ensure viability of the seed as I work with some very old seed stock at times(2 to 15 years old). I normally get a 90% success rate on popped seeds. If the seed is fresh I just soak overnight and plant directly into the medium.

great advice, macamus33.
another tip, for older seeds a little scarification helps. and then you coud skip the towel part of the method.

Put seed asshole up and insert into root riots under a propagation mat, a little aquashield and karma for good measure and away you go!

Thanks for sharing your technique, never know when it's going to help someone. I used to do the paper towel technique until I found the Root starters thing-a-ma-boobers!

Good luck, Peace

sprouting the seed in soil is the beginning of my selection process. handling hundreds of sprouts sucks. i want the strongest healthy plants. but like said everyone should do what is comfortable for them
