a nice documentary! just watched it a couple of days ago... in my opinion the real problem with science is, mankind/society is yet not ready for many biotech applications already availible and upcoming ones... since technology is developing faster then ethics/moral of the users and potential abusers of the tech...

Couldn't agree with you more. I don't trust any ones judgement on this
you know the first thing most of that has been used for is military and that the stuff we saw was child's play

"tip of the iceburg"

Its comforting to know this stuff is out there isn't it; and in such a late stage of development too, now I know there are thousands of people who've known about this stuff for years but where is the public debate on it, look at the publicity around stem cell research and as far as I can tell this is much worse then growing a new liver.

"We're fucked"

you know, I think your right.

its so far down the line,,

remember back in the day when they put dogs heads on cats and the other way round and it was a success well they have been messing with genes for over 20 years and you havent seen anything yet,,

the most worrying is things like genes that reduce cell senescence have been mapped out for a long time found in that species of naked mole rat,, ill bet you any money that is already in people being born today,,

its very late stage and advanced all this,, like alot of technology that has or is being refined without any public knowledge..

scientists have no morals, thats the problem,,

Ye this is a finished product now and they're packaging it as such.

Whats cell senescence? (I could google but that negates the conversation part of the forum)

Funny I used to work with a girl that had a lot of molerat in her genome:biggrin:.

Your right the scientists on show there seem to have no sense that this is dangerous "arrogant meddling" to quote George Carlin R.I.P
one of them referring to this as a "brave new world" shows just how little respect he has for our beautiful old world.
The problem is when you spend your life looking down the microscope at your own world it will consume you and you'll forget about about the world outside; combine this with the arrogance that a lot of intelligent people have and you've got a nice little recipe sociopathic science.

Robert Oppenheimer co inventor of the hydrogen bomb Illustrates this. having seen his bomb tested successfully he says.

"I am become death; The destroyer of worlds."

a lot of people think this is an expression of regret. But I've never been able to read it that way I think it reeks of arrogance and pride.

well said!

sensecence is aging,, down the road of immortality of sorts..

i too have wondered about that statement by oppenheimer,, i think its a mix of the two and that he knew what the future would hold,,

science is a religion,, its no longer objective,,
