I think my plants are not healthy?

Ok so my plant is about a 5 days old. It seems to have some slight burn marks on its leaves. Little yellowish brown spots.

Right now my setup is

1 plant in a solo cup with Fox Forest Ocean farm soil with slits in the side of the cup for run off.

I have been watering them every time I feel the soil is getting to dry.

I have 2 cfls on the plant about 2 1/2 inches away.

For about 2-4 of the first days I had the lights about an inch away or closer (to close?)

It was about 85 degrees for the first couple of days but I have it under control now to wear it stays about a constant 79.

What could be wrong? The burn spots are very tiny or else I would get a pic

You didnt supply enough information but i see a problem already. You say that you feel your soil to know when to water. You need to hqnd weigh your pots. They should be the same weight that they were when you first transplanted them into FFOF before you added water. The finger technique is wrong and whoever put that in a book should be ashamed.

You also want to pH your water before you use it. Only add water to FFOF for at least 2 weeks. It already hqs plenty of food. I water my FFOf with 6.8 water and I nute at 6.2 - 6.4 every 3 weeks or so.

You dont state if its from seed or clone but if its from seed then raise your lights a little. From clone younare OK. FFOF is too hot to use for seeds and can burn plants by the way.

I use distilled water from walmart and I believe the ph is right around 6.

Whats the problem though? Sorry if I didnt see you mention it.

Do they need more water?

If so how much should I give it and how often? 1/4 cup? 1/2 cup? full cup?

Your problem is that you lack details to guide you.

1. Your water pH is too low.

2. You are over watering. I explain how to water above. The amount of water depends if you are growing from seed or clone and how big your pots are.

Right now I am growing from a seed in a solo cup with ffof. So you are saying I should only water a total of 2 weeks throughout the whole vegtative stage?

I watered them today until I saw run off coming out from the slits.

When should I water next?

FFOF is too hot for most seedlings. It has too much food. When you water seedligs, you dont want to see water coming out of the bottom. I mist the soil with a sprayer when i water young seedlings. You dont want to pour a lot of water in your seedlings cause they have a small tap root and need oxygen. Let them look for water. Those arent going to need water for a while. You will need to give water the way that I stated in my first post.

So I should water for 2 weeks total during my 4 week vegatative stage? So like every other day? Just not so much water cause the water will pump to much nutes into the seedling?

Dont saturate the soil when you have young seedlings because it stays wet for too long and holds less oxygen for your little roots that you have. I have seedligs now and they get watered every 3-4 days. I cant tell you how often to water. Only you know that. You know you need water by hand weighing your pots like I stated in the first post. This is not complicated to understand. This is just water. If this is complicated, wait till they get bigger and you need nutes.

This is my very first attempt at growing. I literally just started reading up on it about 2 weeks ago just wanna get the basics down pack. So you water your seedlings every 3-4 days just by spraying the soil?

I seem to keep repeating myself. You water when they need it. I cant tell you when they need to be watered because im not at your house. Read the first post and i tell you how to know if they need water. I spray the soil on young seedlings but you can use a measuring cup too if you want.

It might just be a little hot for it but it will be fine. It's hard to over water OF, just let it dry out every 4 or 5 days.

i keep my little seedlings 4-41/2 inches from cfl....in my 8 oz cup no perlite....take the soil take a spayer bottle, figure how many sprays to wet soil until it,forms a clump if u squeeze it lightly, plant seed, wen i water proably wud got 20 straight sprays, not on the widest spray adjustment...im trying to water with out it coming out bottom.you cud weigh it,wen it need to be watered it will weigh less then that,by maybe a 1/2 ounce or 11/2 or a half ounce less then a dry cup of the same amount of mix...does it for me..it hard to tell someone to water, just trying to help going out on a limb..hopeing i wont get to much pinching for it...moon/juke boxhero
