trinity gold did a cool experiment this last season, i think he ran his supplemental until very late like aug 1st? if im not mistaken. This lead to prolific growth rates for his ladies as they were just itchin to put on the flowers after a wait like that
the above is actually wrong...The lights were ran till July 27..Way too late in the game. The plants were too old. They had been put out in early May ...I heard that about 30% of the garden that the experiment with the lights was done in was heavily infested with Hemp Canker...
I heard TG is going to scrap the lighting all together and start later with younger plants that were rooted and vegged on a 16/8 light time indoors and plant the first week of June..Figure currently you'd want to be rooting and raising donor plants for the various varieties that will populate the garden...Towards the end of April take clones from the donors , early May get them well set in a 1 gallon pot indoors , mid May move to green house in to 2cu ft Black Gold bag, Early June put out in to mounds and step back..

Can someone break this down for me? I'm only using 2 bags of potting soil. So 3 cubic ft of soil. How much chicken manure, bone meal, gypsum, etc.. do i add? Thanks. Great looking plants btw.Hi Jenn,
I've played with a lot of different soil recipes over the years, 1rst year new soil mixes, as well as yearly additives. Here's a very simple mix that is well proven and I am comfortable recommending for those large outdoor containers. It gives about 50 cubic feet or just over 300 gallons (dry U.S), and fills a 6ft diameter container to a depth of about 18inches - perfectly.
25 bags black gold potting soil (1.5cf ea)
4 bags stutzman farms chicken manure (1 cf ea)
1 bag perlite (4 cf ea)
1 bag (50 lbs) bonemeal (steamed, not precipitated)
1/2 bag gypsum (aprox 1/2 cf) - Edit -> 1/2 of a 40 lb bag (20lbs).
Mix well, water thoroughly, let rest for 2-3 weeks minimum, transplant, and stand back
Best Regards,
Tom
My local nursery has small bags of chicken manure, gypsum, and eb stone bone meal. Think I might do 4 plants. So 6 cft of soil now. lol. Btw, I'll be using eb stone potting soil.If you are only doing 3 cubes of dirt, i would suggest buying a pre mixed dry amendment mix like Age Old dry Grow or, what I use, a mix of dry mixes from Down to Earth Organics. I like the Bio-Fish and Bio-live mixes. Growilla is not bad stuff either.
E.B.Stone has small boxes of similar stuff for cheap. I would bet perfectly fine results side by side with Tom's mix... which is great for larger batches for sure. But it doesn;t make too much sense to go buying huge bags of amendments and using a few pounds total.
