Why is my hash dry & crumbly instead of tacky this time?

Hello all,

I just have a question that has me a little confused?

Ok, i only just learned about the 'Gumby' method of making hash a little while ago, which seemed good for me, as it is cheap and easy.

Since learning about it i have made 3 small batches in a kitchen blender. But, the last one that i made doesn't roll up into a tacky ball, it is more dry and crumbly.

Does anyone know why that may have happened?

I have done all 3 batches the same, and each one only produced a 3-4 gram ball, or pile of crumbs for the last one. lol

Thanks for any help. :thank you:

I made it for someone else, but the dry crumbly one hasn't been tried yet.

Any difference in drying time? Sometimes my ISO is either more powdery or tacky based on how long I let it sit before I scrape it.

As far as i can remember i made them all the same, but the 2 tacky ones were tacky even a couple of days later. I could squeeze it and stretch it, but the third one just doesn't 'stick' together very well?

It might have something to do with the strains, as babbabud mentioned.

Thanks. :thank you: :ying:

Caveat: anecdotes ahead, no guarantees that this is true for you...just personal experience. I have found that it is strain/pheno dependent in a lot of cases (same way with the "meltiness" aspect), and I have also noticed that when I do "first runs" with very well-frozen (fresh) trim and plenty of ice I get more "gummy" hash for a given strain than when I do a second run (usually with less ice since some has melted) with already beat-up material.

thanks jd4083, these weren't 1st, 2nd and 3rd wash, it was 3 different times with 3 different strains.

bubble is very strain specific

What is a good strain for bubble then?

Thank you in advance.

I had made some ISO Hash Oil out of Mexican Brick weed that bubbled on the joint. That stuff could be anything though.

My bubble days are DONE!!!! I hate the cold. Anyways, I've done alot of bubble hash, and have found the Sativa s make for the nicest hash. Though for bud, I preffer Indicas. Every single strain has different size and mix of sizes of trichomes, so the 74um rule does not hold for all. Nice thing however about bubble bags is you get to make different hashes from the same plants, and can try them out and combine them for best hash. Its a bitch though. Also, if the stuff is not fuzing together, you actually need to break open some of the trichomes (I know it goes against the rules...), and make a tiny amount of oil and mix it up real good, and use pressure to fuze everything together.

This is, at best, what I have to work with

FWIW-I have experienced with qwiso that there is a point while it's drying that you can scrape it and it will be nice and gooey or if you wait it will be fine and powdery. I know you said all three were done with the same method, but were the temps the same on all three?

Thanks for all the info.

I guess it doesn't really matter, i just thought that it doesn't look as nice when it is dry and crumbly, compared to a plyable wad.

As long as it is still good then that's ok, i thought i might have damaged it somehow.

I'm guessing that when you use bubble bags, instead of the gumby method, your breaking some of the trichomes, which acts as a sticking agent for the intact triches. With the gumby method, your so gentle, that non of your triches break.
