Where to live in BC

Best places? When I look at Vancouver, North Van, North Van District, number of surrounding cities. It seems like they are all full of town houses and apartment complexes. I have a hard time believing the cities are full of grow houses. There aren't any houses!

Are there any places around there any nice cities with affordable houses to raise a family out there?
The more temperate the climate the better.

My gf and I were very close to moving to Victoria, then I got a job in the Prairies. I sent her and her Mom to Victoria to see if she would like it and really did. Victoria is quite expensive but there seem to be some more affordable bed and breakfasts type towns. Finding a job is another story, I only found one designated Victoria headhunter so far. I definitely won't be moving to BC without a job lined up. Would you guys say things on Vancouver island are cheaper? I'm guessing food/ gas isn't but there seems to be actual houses for sale.

Wheres VPD GS?
Nanaimo looks pretty nice, I love sea planes seems like they got quite a few out there. What is Nanaimo like compared to Victoria? I think it gets more rain?
Kelowna seems okay? I'm guessing it's cheaper than Vancouver except you have one big lake instead of the ocean.
I remember reading back in early 2000s on CC there were a lot of growers on the islands, I just want to find a rather friendly liberal area that my neighbors aren't going to be douchebags if they see a couple plants in my back yard. Granted I likely won't be so lucky but I can hope.
In University my first bud I made in Res was a dude from Victoria and it was funny connection he was like do you smoke? I was like we're gonna be good buds. I guess I've always had a image of Victoria being stoner friendly but I dunno, maybe just a hope.

I don't think the gf saw Duncan when she was out there. How much does it cost to go to Seattle or Vancouver from the Island?
So I looked up Whalley and Duncan, Thought you were kidding about Whalley so no offense if you live there but what I was reading wasn't the best.
Duncan I wiki'ed and I thought you guys might be f'ing with me cause it seems small and the pics didn't blow me away from thanks google image. But I went onto the realtor website and I have to say that was some good advice guys, looks like there are some nice homes. I see there is a Indian Reserve not to far from it, any issues there with those folks? I know reserves out here are like 3rd world countries.

Sorry to be so vague. The VPD have made Vancouver the safest cannabis zone in BC. Rent is high in Vancouver, but i pay for the kind of protection the VPD provide. I have been busted here 3 times with no charges laid. It's just how they do it here. Heaven BC baby. Peace GS

Didn't really know how to take that statement... Speaking for my first nations brothers and sisters is easy to point that they are not the issue. They only live in 4rth world situations because of how everyone else treats them. so don't be afraid of "those" folks. They are the ones protecting the land from development. They need more support and less racism. I would rather be close to them then all the white supremacists in Victoria. f** that place. It is well known as the satanic cult capitol of the world.

Don't get me wrong 2 of my best friends are metis, I consider these guys brothers. I met my gf of 3 years+ through one of them. All I am going off of is what I see here and it isn't good. So I'd hate to see another reservation where Chiefs are screwing over their people and dogs and trash ect is coming into the neighborhoods from nearby. Trash as in rubbish I am not degrading people.

Great reference material  you ever lived there?

If your coming to the Island I would suggest somewhere close enough to commute to Victoria, like sooke, shawnigan lake or on of the gulf islands.

yeah I have. My gf studied at Pacific Rim in Victoria. We were faced with some in your face racism so we kept on moving. victoria is hella beautiful just too racist. It felt like northern alberta. Thats just my two cents though. Maybe if you're white its perfect.. :p

I do second your suggestion for the gulf islands. We have a family place on Galiano and it would be very quiet and very cool. Ferries kind of rub me the wrong way though.

Feeling good is good enough.

And NEVER tell "Victorians" that their local micro breweries "lack" if compared to those crafted in Seattle or good 'Ol Oly... LOL

(Hope it has changed since my last visit).

Sorry to hear that. It feels pretentious but never saw racism.
