Amsterdam hypes in last decades

Hallo friends, I was thinking about how in the last years names in amsterdam coffeeshops scene changed following different hypes that were 'on fashion' that year, maybe two, before changing again, usually following cannabis cup results every year. Often the strain was just an average dutch commercial grown stuff called some exotic way just to attract tourist and be more expensive. Some names anyway became dutch classics.
I've seen different cycles during my trips to ams.
First I remember was
skunk. everything to be good needed to skunk in early 90s
there was some special 'purple', northern lights, and some imported stuff from africa or caribbean.
First change and hype I saw was just adding 'super' to an old name.
So we had super skunk, super afghan...
then came out the white widow phenomenon after cup in 1994. Potent stuff was white widow and later anything in 'white' form. Still nowadays in coffeshops out of amsterdam withe widow is a potent indica bestseller...

Then popped out some jack herer and SSh. Potent sativa high became popular and most sought. So to be good needed to be some 'haze'.
We saw any kind of haze, any color. Silver, super silver, purple, golden, orange... we had all, of any kind... any measure super, ultra, mega, from everywhere mexican, colombian, indian, from everyone neville, arjan,.... incredible...

It lasted few years, while something sweet appeared and stood behind the curtains for a while, still meaning some sweet smelling (and often not properly sweet tasting) weed. Bubblegum and Blueberry had their place for a few years in coffeshops scene. Still nowadays you can find it, but usually as just fake names.
We had also the ak47 period. Still very famous around.

Then we saw the NYCD and diesel hype.
Now it's still very common, of any color and flavour, but usually mediocre.
Barney won the cup with Amnesia that became a classic now in different forms. Curious that the real one has a different origin...
Same as G13haze.
Next it was the time that cheese form uk, got people crazy.

But 3-4 years ago begun the Kush hype, still very strong around.
I remember lately also the lemon fashion. SLH was really nice and dominated 2 cups straight and nearly a 3rd... Last year it was tangerine... ridicolous....

Did I miss some? for sure, help me remember....:)
Who's next?
tnx

Thank you very much my friends.:thank you:
We have had some very useful suggestion to add at the board...:)
And from very experienced people out there...:tiphat:
Many hypes for sure originated from CC winners. That cup was and still is a big businness...

I perfectly remember when kali mist was a true mind bending bomb. Unfortunately that one is lost...
I also remember some Nlx (always wondered about that name, what does it mean?!?) that destroyed me...
And some shiva in some of her many version was truly good...
Jack herer has always a special place in y heart , as it has been the most powerful herb in my first experience from amsterdam weed imported in my country...

I remember perfectly the 'orange bud' period... Any coffeshop had a version of it! But it didn't impress me in any way I recall particularly... Thinking about my today's passion for orange.... make me smile...:)
Big bud wasn't mentioned, or was more an hype for growers?
Anyone remember also stella blue? wow that was a tasty one!
Let's not forget grey area! in last years it grew his rep around offering dna stuff. Among them one mention goes for sure to chocolope, silver bubble and LA conf. And Soma's lavender and buddah sister? sweets....

Tnx to everyone, let's keep memories alive....
And I will never forget some good batches of old red lebanon....one of my favourite hash ever...:blowbubbles:
yez...in dam we trust jahmen

NLX is a northerlight x skunk X , still gown a lot in the south as comercial crop.

Also bubblegum is still grown a lot in the south, both because of yield.

Interesting thread!!

oh yeah, there was a very nice clone of NLX going around in Switzerland also.

I tend to stick more and more to import hashes when I go to the Dam.Excellent weed has never been a pb to score in my area.Good Hash is not (at least Asian hashes).

Another way to look at it is to see it like literature. A book will come out that is very popular because it truly is unique. Sales go up and the imitators abound. Some are good, most fall short. This popularity will run it's course and could be named a 'period' as in mass literature can be classified.

The process repeats ad finitum but the truly outstanding writers and their offerings will remain as their appeal transcends current fashion and will always have a loyal base and will attract new enthusiasts who will recognize quality.

And a classic is born.

Most bookstores are loaded with tired reworkings of the same old ideas because new ideas are rare and the old may not be deftly presented in any fashion that would distinguish them from their predecessors.

The insatiable demand for the fashionable 'new' can create libraries of 'penny dreadfuls'
but there will always be a classics market for the discerning that can separate quality from fashion.

I made that up while stoned to the bone...

Pretty good, huh?
