While back up on the ropes, throwing a body punch, then fading to your opposing hand and slipping out (or pivoting) is a very common boxing technique. It is often followed by a hook of the exit side hand.
Diaz gets so much praise for his boxing but he had no answer for Condit doing it to him the entire fight?
Establishing ring control is done by devisive footwork and tactical offense to control where you allow you opponent to move. Condit's footwork was way more effective in the fact that he was allowed to establish his own game plan successfully.
I would also estimate that Condit had almost 25% more offensive strikes than Diaz.

I just don't understand the obvious announcer bias and the popular infatuation with Diaz I guess. Is it really because he smokes weed? If so that's just sad. I will never like an individual because they do, or do not, smoke herb. Seems too trivial to me, that's all.

As always thanks to everyone for hangin out and a special thanks to MR.B! Your like clockwork Sir, a regular rock of gibraltar.

So Diaz should get points for walking into repetitive kicks and punches?
This isn't a marathon, it's a fight. Punches and kicks win fights not walking to a finish.
It's MMA not boxing. Condit fought a boring, technical fight. If he would have manned up like Penn and banged he would have gotten his ass handed to him. But he didn't have the cajones to bang with Diaz.

Footwork.....MEH...once again this is MMA, a COMBAT sport. Condit tap dancing around the ring like the ghost of sugar ray doesn't get the respect of the average MMA fan.

I hate people who have "running away like a bitch" as a strategy. This is a fight, not track and Field....if you can't hang, go away.
maybe they should tie their feet together?
for someone to be running like a bitch and still throw and land more punches than their opponent is a feat huh?

if diaz would have thrown more actual punches and less verbal ones he might have won.

if it is any consolation i think diaz won conversation of the night, idiot of the night and whiney little girl of the night.

Diaz was an idiot. He chased Condit around the whole fight. Condit landed more and more powerful shots out maneuvered his opponent, even turning his back to Diaz to and diaz did nothing. Diaz did not fight to finish, he fought to talk.

fixed it...

see all diaz needed to do was stop chasing.
he could have stood in the center and made condit come to him.
or
he could have used actual footwork to cut condit off.
or
he could have attempted the takedown.
instead
his reach was not an advantage so the "stockton slap" was shown to be the bullshit it truly is.

outclassed by a more intelligent fighter. then whine like a bitch at the loss.
i hope he is a man of his word(we all know he is not)and quits.
maybe he and his "possee" should have jumped condit in the octagon after the fight? it's the only way he was gonna win.

proud to be one of the ones who got it right in the poll ;)

That would be *cOjones* , and you're forgetting something , it's got NOTHING whatsoever to do with " manning up" , Condit did what he had to to get the win and Diaz got taken out of his usual game plan and looked like shit.

You don't always win by banging , you win by outhinking the other guy m make him come to you and fight your fight.

And Diaz showed a weakness he's not shown prior really , he was getting the shit countrpunched out of him , and his timing was way , way off.

By the way " boring technical fights"...sounds like GSP.

Who gives a rats ass about the " average MMA fan" , most of whom go to these fights to see blood and drinks beer.

The " average fan" knows just about as much as *you* do which in reality is *f***all as you have just demonstrated. Dagnabit pretty much was spot on , you howver don't know a whole hell of a lot about it.

Me? I *never* run my yap about things I don't know anything about and tell ya what as an ex fighter Condit gets my respect.

And in POINT OF FACT *any* thats' again ANY man who goes through the keep and crawls over the side into that ring deserves some damned respect for having the COJONES to step in the goddamned ring.

And yappers who start talking about " manning up" and " respect" , but who wouldn't be able to scratch back after 30 seconds with the folks that they're yapping about , well those kinds of folks are just..............

Yappers.

Diaz was robbed. He backed Condit up the whole fight. Condit landed a few shots but ran from his opponent, even turning his back to Diaz to get away. Condit did not fight to finish, he fought to win.

No he wasn't robbed. And I LIKE Diaz , he looked like shit , his timing was off and Condit got inside his head and made Diaz play his game.

And that last line.....................tell you what folks as an ex fighter that " did not fight to finish fought to win" now there's some BULLSHIT , right there. The *object* is to win , did y'all forget that?

Are y'all REALLY so far gone emotionally and ethically that you just GOTTA see some blood or someone get ;knocked the hell out.....................not gonna be freaking saitisfied until they're out there with a Cestus again and folks are getting frigging killed regularly are some of y'all?....

Oh and while we're at it ....Dana White is a p.o.s. who is doing his level best to follow in the footsteps of example such as Bob Arum and Don King , he can talk all the crap he wants but he's *just like them*.

In closing , I've seen Diaz box.........forget Mayweather or Pac........Diaz showed himself to susceptible to being counter easily , May weather toys with him and coasts to a decision , Pac flat beats him down or knocks him out , against either one he stands a chance of getting kocked out with a liver shot , he's leaving the door open to get hooked to the liver on a constant basis.

I always thought it was the me-versus-the-world schtick. Diaz really takes that shit to the limit.

IMO, Diaz vs Koscheck would be a bigger draw than Condit vs GSP. Even better, Diaz vs Sonnen. They'd prolly fight at the weigh-ins. :biglaugh:

Condit totally reminded me of hagler vs sugar ray, in that Condit fought a point fight, which is right in line with what Greg Jackson would have have setup as his fight plan. I think that condit had no intention of finishing, he did counter well and stuck to his plan and his plan which was to point and take it to the cards. Diaz wanted to engage and was the aggressor but anytime they would start to engage condit would slip and then throw a could of shots. In hindsight perhaps Diaz should have worked more to get him to the ground. Condit had the game plan to win. Did Condit win? I guess. Did condit beat diaz? Not in my eyes. Condit fought to win but not to finish. Over all the card was a bit of a disappointment but that sometimes happens.

Had I thought I wasn’t ahead, I’d have chinned in and finished that arm lock.

i mean FFS you have a sub finish but choose not to take it and opt to leave it to the judges?

Bottom line?
Condit fought smart, and Diaz ran his mouth and fought dumb.
The mess that was Diaz' face after the fight told the story.

Damn ...someone who actually saw the *real* actual fight and understands the game , those have been few in this thread unfortunately.

And exactly correct , stick and move and the counterpunch piled up the points and won for Condit. As fas a boxing goes , I like Diaz a lot , kid has sand and in a way is a throwback to a bygone era ( except that he seems to have curred out and retired) but he *really* should quit running his mouth about Mayweather , in fact he should just quit running his mouth about most the top 10 in any weight class from welter to light heavy.

At this point even guys that folks are calling " old and shot" as fighters are quite likely gonna give Diaz problems , hell Mosley would time him a counter all night , DeLahypeYa would eat him alive with the left hook to the body , Cotto beats him to the punch and outbangs him...............and these are guys that the public considers tired and washed up.

The current run of fighters..............uh uh , and it's kinda interesting that Diaz is fighting 170ish in mma but mouthing off about welter and light middle in boxing.

Straight up , if Diaz wants to impress the average *boxing* fan then he's going to have to actually beat someone real somewhere from Welter up , if he *really* wanted to make "waves" as fas as being taken seriously by *boxers , trainers and knowledgeable fans* he'd be talking Hopkins . maybe Tarver , Andre Ward or Bute even , but nope he's talking Welter or 154 because he wants a BIG payday and an advantage . can't blame him really but it's not the way to get the respect of the hardcore fight fan.

When Diaz get's in and bangs his game with someone like Hopkins , hell even Sergio Martinez and looks good then I'll listen to him about what he's agonna do in boxing , as long as he's gonna talk about a 1 and out with the money with Mayweather ( who will just cut him to pieces for ten rounds or so , maybe stop him on cuts) I'm not real impressed.

And Condit gave GSP what he was stalling for , a laundry list of Diaz's weaknesses and template for how to beat Diaz.
