EXIF tags and You

Ok, I just uploaded this image to my album with exif data. Because it was too big, ICMag resized it and you'll see the exif data has been stripped out...

No one is supposed to be able to upload anything greater than 1200x1200.

Found the issue! Thanks for all the feedback on this...

If you look at Hammerhead & MajCottonmouth's profile tags, they are new. The photo limits were not set by whomever setup those tags, and therefore you were able to post up images beyond our policy limits, therefore your pics were never resized and the data never deleted.

So only ppl with new tags had this problem, which is now fixed.

Thanks for your patience.

well damn, this is good to know... others might have been caught off guard...

i always resize and save with an older version of paintshop which strips the EXIF data...

Very nice Skip, thank you for looking into this and getting it corrected right away. I think the take away message is that you should always cover your own ass. Technology is great, when it works :)

thats fantastic, if the resizing is fixed. I see allot of pics that are so large you cant even se it. I always save my pics at 1200x 800. It use to work before you left SKIP. Something got changed after you left nothing was getting resized. Very nice to have you back to address these issues ...

There's a free app called Pixelgarde for iPhone users that allows you to edit or remove Exif info.

or you can just turn off location for the photo app in the iphone...

Some of the apps that I use require LS to be on, so turning it off isn't always an option. Also, sometimes there are those "split-second" pics where you can't turn it off beforehand.

you can turn off location just for the camera... ;)

That's what I mean. I use different camera/video apps and many of them require LS for whatever reason, so with Pixelgarde, I can just wipe the info in secs after I take the shot.

don't know if it was mentioned but most android based smart phones give you the option to include or exclude the location data in the images. I think that's all you can turn off without stripping it after the fact

If you're using Windows7, it's easy to delete EXIF data out of your pictures before uploading. No need for fancy apps.

Just rightclick the image -> "Properties" -> "Details" tab -> at the bottom "Remove Properties and Personal Information". You're good to go! :tiphat:
