how to salvage resin-caked jars?

dont know if this has been covered...my search didnt produce.

so i got a couple of boxes of small jars(4oz?) thatve been used for bud storage off/on going two years..........trichs are caked in the bottoms and on the sides.......do i have options to extract this loveliness?

dont know much about tinctures/ISO/alcohol extraction but i can be a quick learner.....please to be giving up your thoughts!!

If you want those resin heads,read up on Quick Wash Iso extraction and follow the rules.
Its pretty simple but you have to be very careful vaping off the alcohol.You could burn stuff up.Vape it off outside.
Rinse, filter, vape it off is the jest of it...ought to be good

On some of my jars it is caked on so thick I can scrape it out of some. But yeah, iso is what I would suggest too. That is the only method I have heard about other than just scraping.

I wash mine out with hot 190 proof ethanol. Soak as long as is needed and use a long handled brush to speed things up.

Don't worry about time, because you have already sidestepped most of the water soluble issues by starting with kif.

i dont know if this is correct (chime in if i am doing it incorrectly), but i bought a bottle of cheap vodka, put a few oz's in the mason jar, shook it up, and the sides are 90/95% cleared of the resins..

took the same used vodka and did the rest of my jars.. i think there were 8 in total

then poured the vodka/resin onto a large plate and let the vodka evaporate... did take about 10days tobe totally dry.. then scraped up the resin n used it in a pipe..

there must be a quicker way...

A hair dryer will evaporate 1/2 cup of iso in about 20 mins, thats what I use to speed it up. Just do it out side as it will smell like alcohol.

Sure, there's a quicker way. Drink it! You don't need to evaporate off the alcohol for that, but you can still allow it to gradually evaporate and drink your doses of it. I've only started doing tincture lately but I like it; cooking with weed is great but I end up having to stuff myself with empty calories.

you could also fill it with ice cold water, and ad some crushed ice cubes. shake it like crazy, and pour the mix through a 25 or 45 micron sieve, or some coffe filter. sort of sams old school "icewater" hasj technique, only you don't have to separate the crystals from leafmaterial but the jar...

i have a 1/2 dozen resin coated bottles sitting on the sidelines... i think i'm going to try this method this weekend..

thanks for all the help, great people.

got some great ideas, i like the QWISO so far. i think it'll be the simplest with how many jars i have...30-40?....most of them are the small balls, 8oz, with some 12-16oz......i think i'll get a large container ready, fill up a few small ones with ISO, start the shaking process, then empty into another small one...repeat the process...collect in the larger one after bit

my only hash experience is using bags. its great having hash hanging around, but the bags are a drag.....i dont have quality bags and i think theyve had their last run, so.....

what's the dry sift all about? ive heard from many its the way to go?

Dry sift is basically whats in the jars.It's not as clean as if you put your buds in a keif box and harvested heads.
What you could do is scrape first, then do the wash on whats left since you have so many.Keep it seperate and see which one you like.
I have used bambo skewers for scraping.

you could place some iso alcohol or similar but only a small amount like 2 or 3 large spoon fulls.

put lid on and shake and twirl it around till u see it come away then pour that onto a plate and let that dry in the sun .. and once its dry then scrap up the resin and make a hashball

Yep as others have stated. Use a proper solvent to grab it and then evap it away.

If you are using Glass Jars you can place the Jar in the Freezer for 10 minutes or so, remove it and use a knife or something to chip/scrape away the stuck resin. You should be able to recover about 90% of it.

^^ good call, i freeze it as well. works great.
especially making honey oil. after its done store it in the freezer... makes it much easier to manage and get everything out of what you store it in.
