If you vent anything out a window, and are worrying about heat or smell, just start a compost pile under the window....no smell, and plenty of radiating heat!!!! Build a compost box right near the window, and start filling it up!!!!!

That, right there, is brilliant. Its probally not the first time its been mentioned, but its the first time I've seen it and It'll work perfect for what I want to do. Thank you so much sir

No worries!!!! I am glad that people see what a very creative way this is to disguise warm air, smell, and keep peeps away, all in one!!!! And, should they do a flir, the heat signal from a compost pile is alot.......so just get those anti flir hood covers, and have a compost pile right under the window you vent any other heat from!!!!!

I wouldn't rely on this, the problem I see is that a compost bin/pile/whatever, while it has heat, it won't explain the heat signature on the structure itself or around the window itself, it would be contained w/in the pile, but it is a creative idea...best bet is to not vent exhaust directly out of a window.

Better yet, run the vent through the compost pile... man with aeration you would have a beautiful end product. You could just build a vent box under the compost with some perforated pipes coming out and into the compost itself. That way the compost would filter scent, and the heat would really "come out of the pile"

what happens when you're all red faced, mumbling shit to the police checking on a flir trace from your what? compost pile?.....they can probably hear your fan belting out the unwanted heat and you are fucked anyways..so yeah i agree with IE2KS best not to vent out of a window at all.

I was saying IF you vent out a window, a compost pile right under it will cover smell, the heat from the pile will explain warmth coming from the area, and the fact that it is a compost pile, will keep most peeps away. I know it won't do shit if they are doing flir....that was tongue in cheek......but if they are doing flir, then they already know what's going on.

I thought flir was illegal,ok come to think of it,it may be legal with warrant. BUT, if you are growin your own smoke.......you CAN afford the IR block stuff for your room. Spend a few extra bucks to ensure you spend many more years as a free person.:tiphat:

this is dumb. compost under the window is not always practical, in the winter the pile will freeze and you will still see the heat being released from the window, and like mcguyver said, proper compost doesn't smell.

i guess if you live where the houses have windows on ground level, but where i live windows are either 10 above ground or basement level, and then theres the winter...so for me in my area it would not work

a large compost pile right there would be OK...the only issue is if the air is being forced out you will see the heat cloud in the cold air. I vented mine up into the attic and out the Undereave.

ozone in a lung room or inline will nuke smell out of the air completely

can run off of battery back up longer than a fan and carbon as well

outside natural controls that come to mind are herb and flower window and box gardens with lilac, lavender, sage or some other types of flowers and herbs with pronounced smells

At this point just hope you're high, and that you have a good lawyer. But... that being said,

"Im sure its not illegal to run your Dryer vent through a compost pile on purpose, to create nice compost. I know its a weird idea, but man I love compost and alternative energy. Don't you love alternative energy officer? Oh yeah, my old dryer sounds like broken belt or something. Sorry Officer. Would you like some compost officer. gee this stuff is great, make your tomatoes into bowling balls."

I mean I would be proud to tell people about it.
