Kanga, Very insperational, about how much longer till harvest? (I'm clueless as to your outdoor "season" down under).

i want to do some kind of drip irrigation this year so that we dont gotta stand around with the hose for hours on end......maybe something that drips a slow but steady stream of water all over the pot. another friend says he got some monsters when the plants would wick up water through the bottom 100% of the time..i gotta browse back through the thread and read for specifics on what everyone else was doing, i saw a few big gardens and checked out what they were doing so going to sort of copy, some really big reservoirs, big pumps, manifolds leading to different rows of plants.....not sure what kind of emitters to use yet.

also not sure what the pump to plant ratio is....how many 200 gal smartpots can be watered by how strong of a pump. im assuming we are not going to be using aquarium pumps lol, would a 3500gph submersible be enough to water a row of six 200 gals?

what kind of pumps/sumps are yall using for the larger gardens....when you gotta put 50 200 gals on an irrigation setup that takes some careful planning! last year my yields were pretty low, and i suspect its because we didnt water enough. sometimes they would skip 2 days without a watering, im sure this stunted yield because my buddy got some monsters and he waters the shit out of his pots almost every day....

what kind of emitters are the best.....probably go with the pressure compensating ones right?
http://www.dripworksusa.com/store/emitterland.php?lnk=ind250

i will only have around 25 200 gals this year im guessing......that will be on the main irrigation line.

im gonna water my smaller 45 gals in another spot via simpler aquarium pumps and basic poly tubing guerilla style.....

yes pressure compensating

i like the drip emitters not the spray head ones

When is the best time to start outdoors in southern California? Id like to grow myself a big plant too....

well nor cal and so cal have common start stop dates

you have no real worry about frosts compared to norcal, so basically lighting is your biggest concern

herb as we all know is photosensitive, so the number of hours of darkness initiates veg and flower cycles

when you put a plant out in april, early may, or earlier, seed or clone, its best to augment the natural light with supplemental lighting to avoid the dreaded preflower stuntage most newbie outdoor growers deal with.

Most seed plants dont need supplemental lighting but sometimes they do show signs of early flower if put out too early in a temperate climate

clones usually do need supplemental if your gonna put them in early

to grow big trees setup a easy to make hoop structure and line the inside with cfls that are on a timer, have them come one a few hours after sunset and before sunrise to make sure the plants stay in veg. After a while you will have some real monster plants just ready to explode with growth come june.

For me seeds are good to go outside mid may and beyond

clones i like to supplement until june 21st if possible

tweaking the times of the supplemental lighting to go along with the ever changing light hours is when it gets a bit tricky.

trinity gold did a cool experiment this last season, i think he ran his supplemental until very late like aug 1st? if im not mistaken. This lead to prolific growth rates for his ladies as they were just itchin to put on the flowers after a wait like that

yea TG had some monsters...i really want to do the supp lighting this year but got some minor things in the way.. the main issue for me is that my field is about 40-50 yards from the nearest electrical outlet so we gotta extend the line out there a bit....also for the pumps too...maybe we'l bury it or something. then theres rigging up all those lights at night that bring unwanted attention to my garden..

its either that or veg inside until they are about 4-5 feet tall and nice and wide and just throw outside but then you cant root them as much as letting them sit and veg out in the 200s to really grow that root mass...

Well the thing there might be to go with larger gauge wire to compensate for line loss over distance. An electrician, or someone up on these things, would know best. Definitely something to think about.

50 yards of high gauge extension wire is no problem for lights and pumps. these are cfl's so the wattage is relatively low

I remember your outdoor thread last season, loved it.

With Sup lighting you don't need much. Do some research to be sure, but a few CFLs might be all you need. Of course the risk is where the shadows are you may have some blooming.

But the thing with sup lighting outdoors is you use it until you want to flower. You decide when to flower in this case. With clones it is always tricky getting the light cycle to match the outdoors. Frankly, most people usually blow it on that.

Can't want to see what you do this time. I love outdoor plants, so big and so natural. The way I like boobs too lol.

Holy crap, Kanga! Those are some of best looking plants I've seen. They look so healthy, man. Best of luck on the rest of the season!

HB.

Cheers mate.....Fingers crossed for small storms this year and all should be good.

I've been reading about the madness since 2000.

Has that beast made it to cali yet?

Not as a pure strain as it wouldnt finish there.....but I have a very good friend up there and he has some crosses that go very well.

Usually everything is off by mid June except the Thai's.
Indicas will start flowering end of next month and then the more Sat in the strain the later they will go.
I can still plant Sativa's in Feb and harvest late June and then plant in June and harvest Oct/Nov and those plants will reveg for summer.....thats about it for this area which is sub-tropical.

I haven't read it all but from what I have read this is an awesome thread. Maybe the best on this site I've seen.

Thanks Tom Hill.

707 grows the best! BIG UP!

I ran to many strains, A lot of breading going on over here. Looking for some thing "special" like all of us. I'm cutting back to 4-5 I think.
How many strains should I run?

Those pics in order:
Black Berry Kush
Chem 4
The Flav
Mendo Dream

imo the less the better. I mean its cool to have variety, but with big girls and numbers, sometimes its nice to have things come in in a few different but substantial waves, instead of one here then one there then a bunch then a few and so on.

in an ideal world that would be...but theres just so many damn varieties of cannabis! never enough lights, never enough hillside...

There's a strain out of Butte County called Flavor and only like a year or so old. Actually there's like Flavor #'s 1-8 or something like that. It/they was created by someone who only basically runs his own creations. Probably no relation here though. The Butte county Flavor is some good shit! I got a lb of Flavor #1 and found about 20 beans and not from hermies but from a breeding project so gonna pop those! Some Flavor cuts floating around and heard that Flavor #7 has some insane vigor.
