Coco coir pots?

Right now I am growing in roots organic coco coir - big chunks to avoid the messy compressed brick "dirtlike stuff". I have been growing in those black fabric 1gallon & 3gallon grow pots. I like the fabric pots because they act like huge filters to keep the coco inside the pot, unlike plastic pots that would drop everything out of the drain holes at the bottom. Unfortunately the fabric pots also allow the roots to grow inside the pot and makes transplanting a difficult. I was thinking about lining the plastic pots with pantyhose to retain the coco & allow easy removal since the roots wont be inside the fabric pots. What do you guys think is the best idea? I need easy removal for transplants & a clean table because I run a drip system several times a day on these coco pots and I do not want the coco to leak on my drain table. Many thanks.

I like using airpots with coco or coco/perlite mixes with top drip to waste. If you really need to transplant, you can just unwind them in 2 sec. I'd save granny's knee-high's for putting over the submersible pump if you are recirculating -- it will keep the chunks out.

Peace

You could use plastic pots to start then go to fabric to finish. Wouldn't solve the issue when the plants are in plastic but maybe you could do the panty hose thing for however long that last. I go from 1 gal plastic pots to #1 smart pots and they fit in there good since the smart pots are more wide than the plastic. Going from 1 gal plastic to 3 gal fabric would be even easier.

Another thing might be to get a smart pot liner for the entire tray. I've never used one but it would act like a huge filter for the entire tray rather than each pot.

Thanks alot. *MB*, I recirculate to aquaponics. I have never looked into airpots but after a youtube search, that looks like what I need. I have never seen airpots at the hydro shop, I hope they have them. Yea, I am one step ahead of you on the submersible pump :).

I been using regular square plastic pots with coco\perlite mix on drip and e&f for a few years now. I get a little coco in the Rez. But honestly, hardly non at all. Just a few grains. Sometime I'll see a piece of perlite or two floating in the Rez. I just grab it with my fingers.

not really hurting the plant to just rip the roots right out of the fabric pots, I'd stay with what you are doing
