What's new

seeds again, what the heck!

So after my last crop, it all turned to seed and I was pretty certain it was from my room temps dipping down below 50, and my res temp was probably in the 30s and 40s.

Well I took precautions and bleached out the whole room, fans, lights, everything possible to kill any pollen incase that was the problem.

Well I'm 6 weeks in and the damn things are seeding again. I double/triple checked for light leaks.

My res temp has been 18-19 celcius, and the rooms havent gone below 60 even with it being 25 out last week.

The plants looked super healthy, and by far the biggest ones I've ever done.

Is it possible for an unnoticed herm to pollinate the entire room, and the room next to it?

Can someone please give me some advice on how to rid myself permantley of this problem.

So far I plan to throw out every single strain that I think is a possible herm, and bleach my rooms again.

Any further help would be greatly appreciated.

thank you!

all you need is a few hidden male flowers and your oscilating fan to ruin a crop. dont feel bad it happened to me in one grow. i plan on making lots of hash.

Stop thinking, it's not getting you far anyway. Next run pay attention to under the buds, that's most likely where the male flowers are showing up. After you see the male flowers, then get rid of the plant. That way you don't throw away a girl you like because you "thought" she might be a heshe.

When you trim the finished product, look for hidden hermies in the nugs. Once you find them, get rid of that strain. Good luck. Peace GS

if your really unlucky you have some industrial hemp field nearby causing your girls to get pollinated?

but as others said, you have to look at every plant from every angle and even check between the bud sites and the stem. have had male flowers showing up there, you have to check them systematically if you are growing from seed or using unknown clones. although normally clones that get passed around are full females.

You don't need bleach to kill pollen. Bleach will only stress the plants.
Water is just as good.

Look for light leaks (you shouldn't see your own hand when standing in the room while in the dark period, below that is acceptable), look for materials that might off-gas, check your humidity and temps through the day and of course monitor your plants for male flowers regularly.

growing chemdawg 91 and blue rhino. I have grown both successfully without seeds. The room is completely light proof. Can't see my hand, or anything else. Even taped over an orange little light on my heater after last run.

Chemdawg is the herm so I'm yanking it. I found male flowers on it. The blue rhino's I have only seen a seed here and there, most buds seem clean. Should I just take everything down at this point?

I'm pretty sure reverse only works as a preventitive, and really there's no way to even tell if that works...

Oh and I didn't bleach with plants in the room. I bleached it in between cycles.

i wouldn't take it down personally, let them finish and just make bubble hash with the seeded parts. or any other concentrate method that takes your fancy. with a bit of luck you'll find lots of buds that are seedless or only have 1 seed or 2 in them. if it's all full of seeds you might just want to start again fresh though, just depends how badly seeded and how far along you are. as for the chem dog, if it's only a male flower here or there you could just pluck them off at this point. from what i've heard others report, those male flowers on the chemdog don't always come back, specially if you only have a few. you could also check inside 1 of the buds to see how seeded it is. make a choice about the chem dog, is it feasible to keep checking them for males and plucking any males you find, or would it be impossible to check every plant regularly till flush time? only you can know whats best for your situation.

I would keep them flowering.

If you found a herm toss it. I try to do a test run for my strains - I run a few small plants and stress them to see how fast they herm up.
I got 3 cuts for now that don't give a crap about light problems, heat problems, root binding etc. Of course it slows them down drastically but I'm pretty positive they won't herm up in my next run \ other peoples grows.

If you'r having constant problems with herm I suggest you do the same. It really doesn't take much to grow a few cuts and stress them. As you might have guessed you don't really need to take much care of them.
