personally, i would go with 3 gallons, pulling 8+oz per pot is pretty easy, but with coco....

but with SO MUCH veg time 5+ gallon.....

to much veg time if you ask me, 3 gallon 10-14 day veg and flip, good to go....

i think this is the best choice, but not doing coco nor vert lighting
that is pretty good you getting a hp from one 3 gal.

if in 5 gallon, will the plants be too big and have to spread apart the buckets? im seeing the with 4 weeks of veg, the plant will be too big to put next to each other, how far apart is recommended? or just have one big cola on top?

Here is what we do in our 6000 sq ft GH--
Nov we start clones indoors in 1 gal soil--
Jan 1st we go out to GH in 15 gal, with christmas lights to keep from flowering--
April 1st we clone and start those indoors...and cut the lights in the GH--
June 1st we cut plants--
June 2nd we put clones from indoors, into GH in 15's with christmas lights--
Sept 1st we clone for next year, and turn off lights--
Nov 1st we harvest--
Simple as that-- :tiphat:

nice set up and schedule but no greenhouse where im at

not commercial they wont wait 4 weeks. They will get more then 60g ....They use cutting's they dont need a long veg .

If I wanted a max yield for the year. I would use 1g grow bags with 200 or more plants on a 3 month perpetual grow. Ea plant can yield 30g or more.. Thats 13lbs Evey 3 months 52lbs a year Min...

I use 5g and 8g smart pots and normal pots. I veg for 4-6 weeks I get 6-8oz per plant depending on strain.

that is a good plan but if harvesting every month, so need to divide that into 2 for 2 rooms

im not a commercial grower, but have grown for over 17 years.

i veg clones for 3 or 4 weeks in 1 gallon pots in soil

i transplant into 5 gallon buckets for flower, and veg them about a week more in the 5ers before flipping the switch.

1 got stuck w/ the 5ers because i couldn't easily get 3 gallon pots like i normally use the last time that i had to get pots.

3gal for what i do is just right (roots fill 'em in perfect w/out rootbound).

...the 5ers are too big and there is usually some dead space w/out roots

...so the last cpl runs i just put 2 plants in each 5er, and seems to work out really good...even tho i know it's advised against...

I can tell you from years of past experience it is the vegging time for the most part controlling the size of the plant and not so much the size of the container they grow in.
As long as the plant does not get a chance to get root bound you can veg it to what ever size (limited by the plants genetically controlled max size) until, see above, it gets root bound. Once the plant gets to that point it's gonna go down hill with its condition real fast.
Not a good thing to happen.

Some plants (especially indica heavy strains) stay short and stocky and never reach enough size to be able to fill out a 5 gallon bucket with their roots no matter how long you veg them.
Others would easily outgrow a 5 gallon container if one would let them.
Most use 3 gallon pots because they veg for 4 to 6 weeks and then flower for another 60 to 90 days.
The faster they grow and flower the quicker of a turn around time you'll get.
Commercial growing is mostly all about the $$ and not the fun or personal use.
In commercial grows there are mostly more or less harsh chemicals being used to prevent bug infections and also chem ferts.
Again many won't tell you that here on the forum but it is how it is.

Remember your original question is about commercial growers, those want to maximize their yield with the least input in money and especially time (time is money in the commercial growing business) hence you'll rarely see a commercial (indoor) grower with just few and large plants. Most grow many but smaller plants instead. Fast growing Indica/Sativa hybrids with all sorts of fancy names given to them.
I have visited commercial grows where there was one plant per 1KW light. Those grew in 25 Gallon containers and were vegged for 6 weeks, they yielded average about 1lb each. However this is not the standard, see above.

How far apart someone sets the pots is something depending on again the particular strain & its unique features one is growing.
You want to have a much as possible light getting to your flowers. You don't want one flower shading the other. As a commercial grower on a larger scale you also don't want to drive yourself crazy using trellis nets (SCROG/SOG), those work well but are a LOT of work hence you'll rarely see them being used in commercial grows. And the ones who did use them mostly abandoned that idea real quick lol

Look @ my past grows, there I vegged for 4 weeks and then trimmed down 3/4 of the plants from the bottom up. I left just 3 or 4 side branches plus the center cola.
I yielded 10lbs+ under 4KW, all that with relatively minimal input. I had everything (besides watering) automated.

So again there really isn't a general guide that can be given.

You just gotta do it and find out what works best for you.
Just because something worked for me with plant ABC does not mean it is going to work for you as well.

If you are fairly new to growing, especially large scale growing, do not expect your first commercial grow to go too well. Most end up fucking up something for longer than just the 1st grow. They might not admit that here on this forum, however that's how it is with the majority of them. It was with my first couple grows while I was still doing that and same or similar with most of the other guys in the same field.

Anyways off to go fishing!

thank you for your wise words and knowledge. i guess the only way is to find out what works best for one and some for others.
i would not say i have 15 yrs of experience, but have a few years under my belt with hydro and experiments with soiless medium.
i be the first to admit i fuck up a few times at the beginning but how else would one learn if not from mistakes?

:thank you:

You don't.

None of us have.

It's just that some have fucked up things more than others because they did not listen to those who already knew what they were doing. ;)
