Maxicrop is not the best seaweed option, based on the way they process it. It would be better to get the Acadian Seaplants seaweed extract (just add water) or http://www.simplici-tea.com/seaweed.htm. Much cheaper too, as they're not shipping you a liquid product.

I'm in Canada!! I should have mentionned that. My hydro store don't have mxicrop products.

I want to use maxicrop seaweed to replace my rhyzotonic.

I already use seaweed compost. Any benefit to add liquid seaweed in this?

I already ordered SPINOSAD (liquid) from british and they shipped it to me.

Its what I want...http://www.maxicrop.com/pages/product_1.html

You guys say taht soluble its better than liquid?

I spotted HUMAX! Anybody use that product? http://www.groworganic.com/humax-5-gallon.html

Thank you guys!

Liquid is fast acting and the meal needs time to break down. You also have the ability to foliar feed with the liquid.

I keep both on hand, they each serve their purpose.

Iron, if I'm low on budget and I already have seaweed compost...would you use seaweed or something different like humus or anything else?

If you're in Canada, you should be able to get Acadian Seaplants Seaweed Extract Powder. It's cold water processed ascophyllum nodosum (N. Atlantic Sea Kelp). Maxicrop uses either heat or some chemical extraction in theirs (I can't remember off the top of my head). Acadian is based out of Nova Scotia, so you should be able to source it.

Someone mentioned that liquid is "faster acting." This may be true when comparing kelp meal with a liquid seaweed, but not with the extract powders. Essentially when you're buying a liquid seaweed, you're paying for the water, which is more expensive to ship. At 1/2 tsp. per gallon for the dry seaweed extracts, you can add water and it comes out to something like 10-20 cents/gallon.

If you want to learn more about seaweed, pick up a copy of TL Senn's book, Seaweed and Plant Growth. I use kelp meal from Acadian (they make 90% of the stuff found in the US) at 1 c. per cubic ft of my soil mix, and then I also use the seaweed extract powder when I water my plants. Be sure to not try and increase dosages, as too much can actually decrease plant growth and germination rates. In the proper concentrations though, seaweed is one of the best organic amendments you can add to your garden!

Humus is something completely different, and most humus products aren't actually "humus." Are you referring to humic acid? (www.teravita.com to learn a bit more)

Hard to say what's going to be most beneficial without knowing a lot more about what you already have.

My advice would be to spend your money on building your soil. Good compost and earthworm castings will have the biggest input on the health of your plant.

Ignore most of the hype associated with bottled products, they're almost all using the same ingredients and marking them up 1000%. This is where hydro shops make a lot of their money, so I wouldn't necessarily consider them good sources for advice.

I use ...

Pro-Mix HP with mycorize
Seaweed compost
...and i'm finish my GHO Organic bloom quart. I need something to replace it. I didn't hated it but didn't liked it...to have good result with GHO organic I have to use 30ml in a gallon when they say to use 20ml...

I will need another organic bloom nutrient (I think of buying age old stuff)

I would like to replace my rhyzotonic for anything else good and cheap.

I know building my soil would be the best thing to do but I live in appartment...no space to cook dirt..! :)

Thank you!

Grapeman, I don,t want maxicrop 100%. This product is just really well rated on this forum. Where is the line to know what advice is really good and other really don't?

Seaweed powder in seaweed compost is ok or I should use another product in my seaweed compost?

Irrespective of its usefulness, utility, whatever, MaxiCrop does happen to come in a dry form. Very easy to mix up and use.

ExoSteve,

What do you mean by "seaweed compost?" Is this a commercial product you're buying or is it something you make yourself? There's a big difference between kelp products based on how they're processed and what type of seaweed it is.

As for advice, you've gotten a bunch of this thread already. Ultimately you'll have to do what you think is best.

Don't take this the wrong way, but I think the best thing you could do for your plants is educate yourself a bit more about organics and growing in general. Otherwise, you'll just get lost among all the threads and advice (some good, some bad) in this forum.

I can tell you one thing though, there's no magic bullet. There's no product out there that will make your plant grow green and happy.

Or, if you don't want to spend the time, the other option is to go with a water-only soil mix that works. Something like this:
http://simplici-tea.com/soilmix.htm

At the very least, you can read the ingredient list to get an idea of what's in a quality organic soil mix. A lot of the large commercial soils like Roots and Fox Farm use cheaper ingredients to keep prices down and make their money in bulk.

CT guy,

I mostly grow since 5 years! But I never added anything to my pro-mix except nutrients like canna or general hydro.

I've read A LOT on this forum. I don't want to spend money on thing that I don't really need and learn about other person experience. I want to take few good tips and start testing from there...not from nothing!

M seaweed compost is the Biomax seaweed. I've read only good thing about their shrimp compost but can't find it here.

Thank you!

1/3 promix or recycled soil
1/3 perlite
1/3 EWC or fresh compost

No need to cook, great soil should keep your plants happy for a while, once they start getting hungry, if you want to keep using bottled, get FF Big Bloom and a bottle of liquid karma, around 35 for both products and some molasses...

When in need to water/fed just mix a tbsp or 2 of EWC on a gallon of water, tbsp or big bloom, LK and molasses.

Cut the molasses midway flower and go water only last 3 weeks!

Good luck! :)

edit: just adding that Liquid Karma is pretty much kelp with some humic acid and some other goodies!
