ICmag and Browsing security...

I'm being a bit lazy but in the Securities and Legal Forum there is a thread and link discussing browsers abilities to report back to sites what site is visited prior and after leaving each site.

The conclusion of the thread was DO NOT come from large sites of information and records storage, especially social media giants, directly to ICmag or from ICmag.

It was even decided it was safer to browse ICmag in a completely separate browser, so there was no past history of other sites to record or watch...

That being said:

Those who visit ICmag, in the past three months, have first come from:

29.69% - google.com
21.88% - facebook.com
20.31% - youtube.com

And after browsing ICmag, immediately visited:

42.55% - google.com
25.53% - facebook.com
14.89% - youtube.com

While some may wonder what they do with all this type of information, I don't care...I'd rather not provide it to them. Let's have safer browsing habits in 2012!!!

(If you know where to look such statistics are freely available. Imagine what more "THEY" can tell.)

Another interesting blurb - site traffic is down 24% during the past three months...so for those that thought it was getting quiet, maybe you were right! ;)

:tiphat:

If I'm at ANY site before logging onto this one I back browse to the Mozilla Firefox start page first, if I can't back out of that site I just close the window out and open up a fresh one.

The only issue with that is this information is set in place via cookies. So it will ALWAYS record such information even with new windows...unless, you have your browser set to not keep any history or clear all history upon closing...these types of things should be basic knowledge to anybody who regards their privacy...

But, the cookie bit was kinda new and I found it odd and kind of sad that we have not altered our browsing habits to reflect current changes in tracking techniques...

i guess it's cause most folks heard about url forwarding or something like that, where every page you are at, gets the info about the page you been before -> most of us (me included) always go to google in between...

Yeah, if i visit facebook after i visit ICM, i get advertisements and "suggestions" for pages that belong to nutrient and fertilizer companies on the right hand side of the page.
The first time i noticed it, i almost shit. Now, i just dump info before leaving this site, blah blah blah.

the only thing facebook can know is you surfed to ICmag, they don't know your id at the site nor what you do at the icmag site. I recommend an app called ccleaner to all, very easy to install and use. Run it before you weed surf and everything in every browser will be cleared out.

I use a separate browser tied to TOR for IC, and IC only. I don't use FB, or Twitter, or Myspace. I don't do banking w/ this computer. I do browse a ton of porn, though.

http: /www.technipages.com firefox-enable disable referrer. html

1. Type about:config in the address bar and press Enter.

2. Find the entry that says Network.http.sendRefererHeader and double-click on it.

3. Set the entry to one of the following:

0 – Disable referrer.
1 – Send the Referer header when clicking on a link, and set document.referrer for the following page.
2 – Send the Referer header when clicking on a link or loading an image.

I could have sworn ive done this before, but just discovered mine was set to 2.
