This didn't happen. They may reorganize and go for the november ballot but I have my doubts that they will get the signatures in that amount of time.

In our county (Amador) we're still working with the land use committee. One of the supes finally admitted that he has "a friend who grows." So now we know that where he lands will be rather directly influenced by this "friend." Should the new ordinance be too restrictive, we'll push for a referendum, start gathering signatures, yada yada yada. But at this point my take on it is that the county truly feels for individuals and the individual grower, they understand the need for cooperatives and collectives but feel that those scenarios allow room for cartel or commercial grows.

Glad that Lake County scraped by on that one! Good work.

That is why we are setting up our farmers market so every small time grower can come in to vend. It really ruined it for growers here when we started getting out of county dispensary owners coming in and doing massive grows to provide their dispensaries in San Jose and the bay area.
We have tried to work with the county to get to a compromise and I too feel the county here wants a solution and is compassionate but afraid of all the feds rattling their cage. Our compromise was a growers co-op that will provide a secure website with access to growers and their products for verified patients. We call it a "virtual farmers market." The growers pay a membership fee to maintain overhead costs. We also plan to find 2 locations in the unincorporated areas of the county to provide our 420 farmers market for 1 day a week at each location. I worked out a little business plan over a couple of weeks with the director of the planning commission and the Board of Supervisors here and we got their approval. Eliminating the dispensary middleman was their desire as we have had some pretty ugly and greedy folks here who own dispensaries. They suggested 2 locations and opened the door as to where we might be located. Our biggest problem is the feds scared the sh*t out of all the landlords here so its a hard sell to get someone to host our market... but I am working on it. ;)

Absolutely NO storefronts in our county. And, the board of supervisors has practically pulled the rug out from under us, I'm extremely unhappy about it.

When the announcement was made that they were enacting an emergency ban on all outdoor cultivation, my husband and I decided we had to act. He's had long hair for well over 15yrs, and that following weekend we went to a barber shop and he SHAVED it all off. The reasons for this are simple--we know what we're up against and we wanted to blur the lines.

The pro-cannabis people who show up never dress well, many of them look as though they barely got out of bed (this is common in my county, cannabis grower/user not, just show up at court one day and you'll see). They become a paradigm for people like the BoS, anyone who wants marijuana out of their area. My husband and I show up looking like professionals, right now with his head shaved he looks just like a cop. We blur the lines, we are trying to give a different face and a different impression on the board.

So we've been attending these land use meetings, and we just found out last night that, despite all the "we don't wanna shut down the Mom & Pop growers" promises, they took a secret vote the very morning of the last meeting and voted to extend the ban all the way through NOVEMBER.

This will make me a criminal. I have no record, have had no trouble with the law, and if I want to grow my own meds I'm going back to being a criminal.

And what REALLY chaps my hide is that we spent a lot of time discussing federal involvement in local affairs and how strongly local law enforcement feels about this interference. Both our sheriff and undersheriff are pro-cultivation/pro-meds, and the board goes and does this?

is that not illegal. If its a voter initiate law dont they have to put it forward in court and get a 3/4 majority ?

I was afraid this is how it would end up, and my guess is that "temporary extension" will be come more of a "permanent" one ...done in secret and then they will let you know what THEY have decided. My hit is that the Fed's are really cracking down on known grow counties and threatening loss of federal funding and revenue, and these days that just speaks louder than a few constituants who possibly are pro-MMJ.

Brown Act was the first thing I thought of. Also, the county's website on the morning of the last meeting did NOT show that the BoS was going to be meeting, let alone voting on anything. That didn't show up until later this week (meeting was on the 27th).

A recall will prove difficult in this county. Almost every person on the BoS has a long history going back generations up here, so we've got ourselves a real Good Ol' Boys' Club going on up in these here mountains. However, I think that if they try to make it stick, depending on timing, we may have to put together a ballot initiative overturning the ordinance. The thing is the timing, I think it takes a while to get a ballot initiative onto the ballot, and I think our next vote's coming up in June.

And, now that you mention it, he's been considering running for the county BoS. Thing is, no streets, roads or subdevelopments are named after us.

I've gone and purchased myself new 'business' clothing, been a mountain momma since we moved up here, but I still remember how to go totally L.A. on these people.

Right now it's a land use zoning issue, but like I said above, I think we might be able to get an initiative going for this June's ballot. If we can do that, then the 2012 OD growing season may not be lost.

This is exactly what the under-sheriff told us, feds have already contacted county officials, including the DA, making certain requests and that he expects threats of funding cuts.

And that ties into what I believe is happening on a federal level, and I expressed these views to the BoS and under-sheriff. I believe that the feds are laying down the path for big pharma and big agriculture to take over the growing 'for us' so to speak. Cannabis is a huge business, and I think they not only want in on it, they want to take it over.

I struggle with the notion that big phrama and the gov. wants to take over marijuana.....I'm not doubting that they would, it still seems like they make more $$$$ by it being the way it is now. There are SO MANY jobs that exist for the status quo, especially nationwide.

heres an idea. let every one in lake county to know that if some one comes up to their door with a signature ballot, rip it up. Or have people following these people with he ballots untill mid day and then go snatch and run.....then burn the signatures. they want to play dirty, then every one else must play dirty.... can you image one of those shyt heads getting 500 signatures and then you run off with the whole clip board and destroy them LOLoLlolozl
