Bean prices are out of control.

If cannabis was legal tomorrow you could buy packs of cannabis seeds on e-bay for $2. Prohibition drives the price of everything higher.

har har har (proclaimed with a bitter undertone).

in my opinion, the whole "seed game" is just a "game" and mostly a "marketing" ploy...
if we try being "serious" and "scientific" about the "genetix" which are contained in the nowdays seeds, it gets even more hilarious.

it all starts with: for example: skunk#1 (one of the "main building" blox of nowdays strains), is nowdays sold by 100 different seed vendors, but, what is skunk#1 supposed to be on a genetical level? and how constant is the skunk#1 seeds genetical, chemotypical and phenotypical seggregation, from batch to batch and from vendor to vendor ... also, how does the different chemotypes perform and epigenetically reacting to different growing environments (no 2 growrooms are really equal). now it gets even more farqed up (in my opinion), now we have 100+ retailers selling skunk#1 and every one of them has a different allele distribution (since most if not every one of the seedmakers uses different moms and pops, and even if 10 times one crosses mom a with pops b everytime the chromosome distribution will be different). next step is, companies like white label and others, buying any skunk#1 seeds, growing them out, selecting a female, (in perfect conditions a 2nd one as well), now they get stressed (for maleness induction), so it gets selfed or "quasi selfed". these beans now get sold as "white skunk" or skunk#11 or skunk#1 feminized. someone will eventually grow these seeds out, will find a keeper and call it CHEESE (for example, nothing against the cheeese). the same folks, will trade or gift the clone to a 3rd party, which again might rename it or self it or crossbreed it with something else, and the outcome is called CHIESEL. now someone pops a pack of chiesel and finds a keeper, selfs it, or crossbreed it and calls it: ueber dank or FIRE or OBAMAS finest or whateva, now someone pops beanz of that, chucks some pollen, renames it, and sells it as osama kush, yadda yaddda, so in the end, the less educatad grower will go for the hype names etc., cause it's fetchin most $ or hype or whatever BUT neither the seller nor the buyer REALLY know WHAT they are selling/buying (except for the NAME). end of story (in my opinion). i would love to see folks buying NAMES and not genetix in other cultivars and paying top $ for a name instead of genetix, that kind of bussines practice wouldnt get one far. main reason for this is ofcourse the illegality of the seeds, but COME ON! shite aint even funny no more...

all i can hope for, is that one day, weed gets legal, and we can start BREEDING, prototyping, screening, ... untill then, it's gonna stay a rip off industry for smart vendors, who rely on the lack of knowledge of customers. and a few who try to stabilize or change cultivars will have to follow the path, cause if you can't delivery the new kush, diesel, urkle, amnesia or whateva, you aint gonna sell ish....

blessss
ps.: and yeah, there ain't such a thing as "expensive" it's all relative... 10k $ is just peanuts for some, while 60$ is a fortune to another soul rite?

pss.: does anyone wonder why companies like GH or others who are in the game for 20+ years and made LOTZ of $, are not selling artificial seeds? (damn right, would cost to much to produce microclones, package them, maintain them etc...).

psss.: still, much thanks and respect to every smoker, grower, seed maker, pollenchucker or breeder! everyone of us plays an important role on "changing" things...

Have you ever tried finding Blueberry that tastes and smells of it's berry counterpart on the streets? Once in a blue moon.
But for the price of an oz I can get 10 F2 seeds from the real of reals blueberry cut on DJShorts seedbin and grow my own?!
The prices are fair, let's not get caught up on the details.

If you check your 'My IC page, you'll see I was the joker... and it was not with the intention of being cool! I didn't find the post helpful is all, and it's the first unhelpful feedback I have given you. ;)

As I wrote on your visitor page, I also have a disdain for greed, but moreover I have a disdain for people who hack apart the species to fund their extravagant lifestyles.

See? On certain topics, we do agree.

All the best,
-Chimera

personally i think your prices are fair well priced deffinatley not over priced.

its when it gets to the 100 gbp per pack of 10 its starts to get a bit much in my opinion especially if the seeds are not up to the standard yours are at:) for a great deal less.

we have been growing for a few years... and imo ...and other friends, the best weed we have grown was a seed from a 15 buck pack of jock horror from nirvana.. it was our 1st grow and not knowing about keepin clippings/mums, we didn't..

since that grow we have purchased many/many packs of seeds from many of the 'top' breeders, and while most are good..or very good, so far have not seen anything approaching that buck-fifty seed...

my point... don't have one... happy new year to all

Sometimes getting beans is a lot like going to the movies, some of the biggest hyped movies end of sucking really hard. All the hype in the world wouldn't have made the movie any better then it sucking. Then you turn around and go to a movie that you haven't even heard of and it was the most awesome thing you have ever seen. Seems like these days cannabis seeds are a lot like that. Some times the breeds with all the cash for advertizing end up getting all the hype while the little guy doing good work with no advertizing hype is putting good stuff out there for next to nothing. I guess you take your chances whether it be movies or buying seeds.

Ill pay top dollar for either a f1 hybrid or an inbred/land race strain. Both are worth the money. Poly-hybrids however aren't worth the postage. With a f1 hybrid you can make seeds and get a beautiful diverse array of specimens in the f2 generation. With an inbred/landrace strain you can make f1s and you know what your getting (genetic stability). With poly-hybrids you get a game of roulette. Maybe you get something good, maybe you don't and their progeny... a genetic craps shoot.

I like how some breeders make themselves (somewhat) available on here. From their presence, absence, words, and silences, you can get a sense of whether you have an affinity. Find a breeder whose attitude inspires you, and buy his (her?) seeds. Then maybe make some of your own.

My impression is that there are certainly genetics around that are worth every penny the vendor is asking, and then some. (I'm talking about Tom Hill, but I'm sure there are others.)

I simply won't pay $100.00 for 10 seeds, I don't care WHO the geneticist/breeder is or what his/her rep is. I live in an area where peeps have been growing for . well hell as long as I have been here over 30 years.....I can almost always reach for my phone, call a friend and get a cut or seed I need. NOW I have bought "other's" less known breeders seeds off the Bay and been very happy, hell I've got genetics from Heath Robinson! And those were FREE! hello??

I come from a marketing background and clearly see what the "top" (read: more expensive) breeders motives are and how they use classic marketing techniques, which are ALL legal, to serve their business's. This is their right. It is my right to not to give them my hard earned money if I choose, and so far I have not seen ANY genetic worth over $100.00 for 10 (or less) seeds that I could not aquire personally for a lot less.

Just my two euro's.....flame away!

this is basic the free market/capitalism 101
where within the markets supply and demand are at play.
if people want it and are willing to pay and someone is will and able to provide
it for a cost people are willing to pay then its game on no matter the cost.
competition is also at play, 10 years ago $200-$300 for a pak was the norm for many strains.
more breeders entered the market and the price has dramatically changed in favor of the buyer and we now have more choice with auto's,lowryders, fems, S1s 5 paks 10+12 paks and overall the price is lower

if you want a particular strain of canabis seeds
and you don't feel the price is what your willing to spend
then you don't buy it.
if enough people feel the same about a particular product it will either be discontinued,
the price lowered satisfying the buyer and enough profit for the seller to continue offering it
or the seller will go out of business.

too true man good marketing works wonders and most ppl assume that pricey = best. in fact this trick works so well that ppl can build a whole business model on it, like the aforementioned 700+ dollar strain shows. its so ridiculously expensive that every day a new idiot will think its DA BOMB and will buy it, simply based on the high price. if it was in the cheap-affordable range the same customer wouldnt propably even give it a second look. its funny how these things work.

while i think that you gotta pay for quality theres a ceiling or a point where it becomes ridiculous and out of control. personally i wont pay more than 40 bucks for a pack of seeds, because i know i can get premium top notch genetics for that price. hell you can get some fire strains for 25 bucks and its awesome. and ive run high-end strains too so i was able to compare and i really see no difference except in hype and marketing. they sell you an illusion and good feelings, personally im more interested in the endproduct.

PS. i should add that i do seed-to-weed runs which is a whole different ballgame from cuts. i can understand someone dropping a ton of cash on some awesome shit like a mango haze and then doing a selection and keep growing it for years. tho i still think that prices in that range are totally out of control.

3 of my current favorite strains came to me as 'freebies'.. so, since then, I've decided on a particular strain I want to purchase and patiently wait for the right 'freebie' deal to come along and order just 1 or 2 items and get 7 or 8 strains in the process.. sometime their crap, and sometime they 'holy cow' strains. Prices are what they are, business is business and marketing is marketing. More power to them... they're keeping the market interesting. Happy New Year you guys..
