Experienced Toker / Newb Grower

I found this site a long time ago but was fairly inactive and went offline for a while due to things that happened in my life which I couldn't control. I am hoping to not only learn a lot from everyone that is on this site but also hope to make some friends along the way!

Careful as you delve into growing this stuff,.... while smoking it is not addictive, GROWING it IS! :D

Read up, lots and lots of good threads and grow logs. Also, hit the infirmary forum and do some reading there to learn up on what goes wrong, how to figure it, and how to fix it.

Got any plans for your upstart grow?

I been thinking of building some kind of cabinet for my grow. I used to have a bunch of equipment for a set up using HIDs but all of my stuff is long gone now due to moving around and not being able to take everything. What I did have left was mostly destroyed by a flood so all I have left is a duffle bag with a few 400W HPS bulbs and an old magnet ballast which I am not even going to bother rewiring.

I been contemplating on using some CFLs though I am not 100% sure how effective they are. In the past I have helped friends with their grows in grow rooms using HIDs so I kind of have it ingrained in my head that HIDs are the only way to go. The extent of my helping friends out how ever is mostly in set ups and DIY hydroponics. I need to learn more about running hydroponics though. The main problem for me at the moment is that I am just about completely broke due to not being able to find work.

I spent a lot of time the past 2-3 days reading a lot of the DIY threads and things within the Microgrow forum and a few other areas and have found some things that I think could be promising. I just wonder how my own skills on my own would be considering in the past when I helped out with a friends grow I was helping someone who was used to working with plants because he had his own gardening/landscaping company.

I spend most of my time doing school work and beyond that I am in serious need of a hobby that will lift my spirits a bit so that I don't go stir crazy cause my life has gotten rather boring since I am fairly broke these days.

Floro and CFL bulbs work best for microgrows, low heat and small plants don't require the penetration of an HID, it's all in the setup tho. I've seen some killer buds taken from under T-5's ;)

Lighting is easy and can be done on the cheap.

Don't ask me about Hydro, I'm a dirt guy.

I read Dr. Bud's thread on his small CFL. Cab for a SOG set up. He seemes to have really figured out how to not only do a small set up but also still use soil. A lot of the small set ups I have seen thread wise are one form of hydro or another it seems. You an all organic grow kind of guy?

Chicken wire is a bad idea for SCROG simply because you can't pull the buds down thru the screen at harvest.

I use 2"x3" garden fence for my screen, and I still wind up with issues at harvest. ;)

You an all organic grow kind of guy?

No, For the most part I use the "Techniflora" line and kinda follow the recipe.

I''ve found a mod or two that works for each strain that I know, but I'm still working some others.

I have done a couple organic grows tho,.... and I must say I'm not far from switchin!!!!:artist:

I was thinking of running something around this range. What would you say that your average yield is dry? You typically run Indica or Sativa or some kind of hybrid?
i normaly run indica dominaint hybrids in there now i have 1 purple ak-47 and 3 kushberrys normal harvest is anyweres from 3-8 ounces depending on how hot or cold my garage gets. if i brought it inside it would probably do better than 8oz per 2 and a half months in the cab

I definitely would like to get into organics in the future but I figure I probably should start out easy. It seems to me that there is a lot to learn about organics before traveling down that road.

nope i used to make my own soil but it was inconsistant now i just buy a bag of roots no mixing in of anything

i use hygroyzyme and great white witch adds more micro organisms but i consider that more nutrient profile than soil amending
