Building a Stealth Flower Box.

So I decided that the kids were getting to big and I had to build something more covert to hide my plants. First I wanted to build a flower room in the basement.
But I had to move my AC unit as it took up way to much space

Here is what we did to the AC now its against the far wall!

Once done I started to frame in a wall so I could put in a locking door!

Wish I had taken more pictures of the door build. I really wanted to build a door with hidden hinges so I went with the Soss hinges. It really was tough to get these in position correctly!

Looks like the works being put in. I'll be sure to keep an eye on this and see how everything comes together.

I would like to touch base on a couple points. I've built many grows over the years and I have used many different materials.

It looks like your using untreated lumber 2x4's for the framing, That's not good even if your basement doesn't leak. Those 2x4's will draw moisture from the concrete slowly over time and eventually get moist enough to start causing mold on the framing and that will eventually get to your drywall as well.

If I were you, I would either do one of 2 things. I would stop what I was doing and either go buy some thompson water sealer. Or I would pull the untreated 2x4's and replace them with treated instead. Atleast for any of the framing which will come in direct contact with concrete.

The best drywall for a basement is the green board made for bathrooms and places with higher moisture levels. Slightly more expensive upfront but saves you money in the long run when you end up replacing moldy drywall.

Thanks Blaze for the input! Because it is next to the AC unit it is really dry in this room. and I am painting everything with exterior paint. Also my thinking is that this might be something I use for about two years and then I might expand into the garage.

Thanks Blaze for the input! Because it is next to the AC unit it is really dry in this room. and I am painting everything with exterior paint. Also my thinking is that this might be something I use for about two years and then I might expand into the garage.

The door is installed I am using tot locks with magnetic catch so there is nothing on the door to indicate access.
