Correlation Does NOT imply Causation - A Primer

im saying your a specific situation and what applies to you is unique,, maybe a crutch is a strong word for someone so dependant,, how about chemical ally ,, in my opinion it is question of perception and how up front you want to be with yourself,,

at the end of the day its your life, you made your decisions and got yourself where you are,, as cold as it may sound,, why should you not have to call it a crutch if its what gets you through your day?

back to the op,,, has anyone here ever met a schizophrenic? ,,, do they think giving someone with schizophrenia a spliff will help them with their symptoms ?

in fact it almost always exacerbates them,, whether this means the person is in more mental torment than before cannot be measured or quantified, but the symptoms can and since it makes them worse will always cause scientists to speculate and attempt to prove a link between cannabis and schizophrenia,, it doesnt cause it in anyway it exacerbates,,

i know(knew) a guy who was schizo, a friend of a friend. told me the guy was fine up till he was about 13 when he was diagnosed something and given pills. he was always cool when he was high. when he wasn't high though he was crazy, as crazy as if not much crazier than i am.
when he is high he's like anyone else. when he isn't high he is talking to himself (people we can't see) looking at things we can't see. he uses his fingers to shoot people we can't see. one time we're sittin in the car waiting for the mutual friend to come back from inside a building when he starts shooting people with his fingers and talking shit to em, then he gets out the car and now he's a commando in the bushes yelling and shooting at invisible people. one time in a restaurant, the last time i saw him and one of the final straws for him and the mutual friend. he is sitting at the table with us when he all of a sudden starts yelling at people across the restaurant. there were actual people there but i don't think those were the ones he was yelling at.

i would never wan't to live like that and i pray really hard i don't end up like that but with what i know about what im not really seeing ... i just hope i don't end up like that.

different strokes for different folks, but i knew a schizophrenic and weed really did wonders for him.

yes and the same is true for others as well where it helped but cant cure,, im sorry to hear about that guy,, all sounds very familiar,, its hard to be more crazy than a schizo,,

basically i had a friend that totally lost it years ago and i spent alot of time around schizophrenics and learning about the theorised causes and studies done on the subject,, im not saying any of what i am saying is fact just what i think based on my experience of the condition,,

i happen to hate the dogmatic approach of science and its white jacket wearing priests so to me nothing is concrete only what i have seen,, just like you guys and your observations,, to edit something i said earlier it doesnt hinder depressives at all,, i was thinking more along the lines of bipolar or manic disorders or people with delusional disorders,, obsessives well everyone is obsessive to some extent,,

and the pills (depending on what they are because there are a few different paths they go down for it) actually usually hinder the person from ever taking that first step in healing themselves, keeping them in a subdued zombie like state but still schizophrenic,,

the shamans knew(know) how to cure problems like schizophrenia and it is a mix of pretty strong chemical allies and induced revelations both under the influence and "sober" to unblock the stem of the problem in the brain,, they were curing things like this tens of thousands of years ago,, extreme problems need extreme solutions,, poison the poison,,

if people want some tunnel vision that cannabis heals everything and everyone then that is fine they can live in denial, not that i call it living,,

I've been diagnosed (by an actual psychiatrist) with OCD and depression and weed works much better than any of the literally dozens of pharm meds I've taken.

That's just anicdotal evidence though, and that topic will discussed during my next public service message.
Interesting, same Dx as one of my sisters. She uses Zoloft most often, but they've lost their health insurance and so she comes to me for my "stoned to the bone" meds. Her OCD has expressed via trichotillamania, of which I seem to have a mild form but have managed to not pull out so much hair that I get any bald spots. But a good hairdresser always knows something's up, and they tend to recommend vitamins for me. I quietly tell them that I'm doing it to myself, instead of biting my nails, you see.

So, another one for the "Correlation does not equal Causation" files--the presence of springtails.

If someone's having problems they'll often begin to dig into or around their pots, and will often discover springtails. Many, if not most people who live in western culture today figure ANY bug is a bad bug, and since they're having problems and found the springtails then the problems must be the fault of the springtails.

In fact, such is not the case. Springtails are just like something called a bristleworm (found in marine aquaria). First, both are detrivores, and so when there is an abundance of dead or dying material their numbers will burgeon. However, they are not the cause of the problem, and in fact can end up becoming a solution to the problem (of excess decaying material/detritus).

I figured maybe this thread's gotten a bit focused on one thing and I see a larger picture here. Not everything in this world qualifies as 'ipso facto', no?
