LA Confidential: 5 Years & Still Knockin' Me Out

I got my cut of LA Confidential from a friend who lived in the SFV in early 2006. She's followed me around through many moves and I think it's time for a smoke report!

  • Bag Appeal @ 8/10 When you get your hands on a jar or bag of LAC, the first thing you notice is how small the clump of green is based on the weight you paid for. These flowers are dense, and therefor don't take up a lot of room. I can fit about an ounce of AK-47 in a quart jar, or I can put over two ounces of LAC in the same jar. The obvious flip side to this is the fact that each little bud feels like it could be thrown through a glass window it's so hard and heavy for it's size. The fact that I can say with a straight face that my cut has never thrown a seed of any sort also helps this category. People come back begging for this time & time again because it's always so consistent.
  • Smell @ 7/10 When you first put this strain into glass jars it smells like wet hay for a solid couple of weeks. It threw me for a loop as a newer grower because everyone kept telling me that smell meant I was putting it in glass too early and that I was going to have mold problems. Not the case! That's just how it smells at first, but over time it cures into a hashy/citrus/minty smell that's quite strong. I consider the smell to peak at about 8 weeks in glass. The nugs are so hard that they don't really "breathe" their smell as well when handling them as some strains. Strains like LAC need a grinder to really be assessed properly. Smell a freshly ground nug and she'll remind you of a minty version of SFV OG Kush.
  • Taste @ 9/10 What can I say? This strain is supposed to be a near-total indica and it tastes like bubble hash with a hint of orange & mint. Perfect! Everyone has a status-quo taste in their mind that they think of when they think of a food, drink or strain. For example, with beer I think of Heinekin as being what beer "should" taste like. A generic sample or benchmark if you will. That's how I think of LAC's taste. It defines what an indica should taste like to me.
  • Potency @ 10/10 Very strong. This is the reason many strains have come & gone from my veg garden, but this has always remained. The ceiling seems to be quite high, there's very little tolerance that builds up over time when compared to other strains, and a little will do the job.
  • Quality of the High @ 10/10 LAC doesn't make my eyes that red, I don't get bags under my eyes at all, it's a clear-headed stone & I can kill a huge bowl and do just about anything pretty effectively. I feel those are under-appreciated traits. I smoke 24/7 & when I encounter potent strains that make me look all fucked up, I see them as fairly useless. I just need more practical medicine than that. LAC is a strong indica that leans so heavily towards the indica sedative side of things that it could even be considered a sleep aid. A well grown sample of Hindu Kush will put me to sleep faster, but that's the only strain I can think of that's more sedative and couch-locky than LAC.
  • Cultivation Notes: I know this is the smoke report forum and not the grower's forum, but this is pretty practical considering most folks who read this will be growing their own. LAC is a very hardy plant that isn't too picky about temperature, feeding or other variables in your garden that could potentially be less than ideal. She's a slow vegger. I've never had a cut root faster than 14 days and 18 days is more average. She'll only stretch to about 1.5x her original size, so you really have to veg these gals. The side branches will end up about 2/3 as tall as the main stalk if pruned appropriately. She isn't a heavy yielder, but your product will move quickly! I struggle to yield over 14 ounces of LAC in the same garden that will yield me over 20 ounces of most hybrid strains. One great way to grow her is to veg for 3 weeks in keg cups after your cuttings root, then veg another 10 days in one gallon containers before flipping to flower. Pack them in @ 4/sq ft and you'll be set!

Yeah, I never saw it too often when I lived in SoCal. It would pop up every once in a while. Probably the low yield, but for head stash it can't be beat.

Thanks for stopping by everyone! :smoke out:

Great report. And I too agree that Heineken is the standard by which all other beers are judged. Makes me think I need to find some LAC!

Thanks for the report. I've got 2 of these beans and was thinking of popping them on my next run.

You won't be sorry.

Be sure to give here the veg time she needs or you'll end up with a very small plant come harvest & don't top them!

Enjoy. . .

Nice report man, I just picked up 6 LA Con's from a nice person who offered them to me. Really looking forward to running this in 200 gallon outdoor Smart Pots.
