Chicago Bears Wide Receiver Busted by Feds

Bears WR Sam Hurd busted by federal agents in ongoing drug distribution ring

Apparently, Chicago Bears receiver Sam Hurd's close personal proximity to Tim Tebow last Sunday in the Bears' overtime loss to the Denver Broncos did nothing to clean up Hurd's act. As reported by many sources, but perhaps the most up-to-date fashion by Sean Jensen of the Chicago Sun-Times, Hurd was busted on Wednesady by undercover Homeland Security agents after attempting to set up regular purchases of marijuana and cocaine to expand a drug sale system that he already had going.
The Bears organization released a brief statement Thursday morning: "We are aware of Sam's arrest and are continuing to gather details. We are disappointed whenever these circumstances arise." The former Dallas Cowboys receiver signed a three-year, $5.1 million contract with the Bears on July 29.
When asked by Chicago media on Thursday afternoon, Bears receiver Roy Williams said, "It's a choice he made, and there are consequences with choices that you make."
According to Jensen's reports, Hurd met with an undercover Homeland Security agent on Wednesday and attempted to set up a system by which he would purchase 5-10 kilograms of cocaine and 1,000 pounds of marijuana per week to distribute in Chicago. Here's the real kicker — according to the complaint, Hurd said that he was already distributing four kilos of cocaine per week in the greater Chicago area with a co-conspirator, but that this amount wasn't enough.
The agent in question believes that Hurd has 21 possible violations of federal statute in a timeline that goes from July of this year through last night. The complaint, which can be seen at the Dallas Morning News' website relates the agent's statement that Hurd was willing to pay $25,000 per kilogram of cocaine and $450 per pound of marijuana. The statement also says that when Hurd's co-conspirator (identified as "T.L.") met with the agent on July 27, he had a bag in his vehicle that contained $88,000 in cash.
The money was in a white bag that was "covered in a green, leafy, plant-like material that field-tested positive for the properties of marijuana." The agent related in the complaint that Hurd's co-conspirator said the money belonged to Hurd, and that Hurd frequently left large amounts of money in his vehicle. Hurd later confirmed to the agent by telephone that the money was his.
"T.L." bought five kilos of cocaine from the agent on August 14, apparently on Hurd's behalf. And that transaction trips off a series of interactions that border on the surreal. According to the statement, the first face-to-face meeting between Hurd and the agent happened on December 14. It was then that Hurd said that "T.L." was in charge of the majority of the deals, and that Hurd focused on the "high-end" deals.
Hurd then asked the agent if Mexican cellular phones could be provided for future deals, as Hurd believed that "law enforcement did not have the capacity of 'listening to' Mexican telephones. Hurd then said that he was a member of the Chicago Bears, that his practice ended at 5:30 p.m., and that he could make arrangements to make payment for one kilogram of cocaine that the agent gave him upon completion of negotiations. When Hurd walked away with the coke, he was taken into custody.

Damn!!! They are going to slam his ass!! Kinda sad. He's an NFL player for fucks sake...Oh well he knew what he was doing. He got too greedy. That is also a big mistake. Everybody gotta learn sometime when to say no and just keep on walking, even though the offer looks and sounds really good. You gotta be able to think above & past it especially if your a damn NFL player who is already making millions in the public eye all the time as it is...Geez..!! Much higher chances of getting caught and not being able to ever keep a low profile.
Well, only he knows what the fuck he was thinking..!:snap out of it:

not a big surprise....most of these NFL players have connections back to childhood, they know dope dealers who they used to grow up with. now with that fat NFL money, they finally have reup money to go out and purchase birds and get shit poppin for their entourage back home to make money...

5.1 mil over 3 years isnt enough for these folks....not when you can flip 5 birds a week and clock 5 million a year!

but these guys were sloppy as fuck...for breaking so many federal laws you gota be a little more careful. telling the CI really sensitive information...

hopefully he lawyers up and beats the case...fuck the war on drugs!

If you're a pro athlete or celebrity, maybe you should let one of your close friends do all the work. All he had to do was finance it, not talk about everything and setup deals with a random guy (who happened to be undercover). He talked way too much and admitted to way too much. Gotta love how he told the undercover he was a chigaco bears player. He just had to say that right...

Wonder how this all even came about? He just met a guy in the bar one night that happened to be an undercover?

Damn!
This story is hard to believe since he makes gobs of money playing ball. He didn't know how lucky he was. Now he's caught a Federal rap for distribution and possibly RICO (continuing criminal enterprise). He is going to catch a minimum mandatory sentence of hard time, probably 10 years. I wouldn't wish that on anyone, even if he is a dumbass. His celebrity makes him a bigger target, and they will make an example out of him. If he kept his mouth shut instead of spilling the beans to the CI, he probably could have copped to 3 years. Now he's fucked, and they will be looking to seize his property as well. Unless he gives up his whole posse, he is looking at 10 years. Another casualty of the "War On Drugs/People".

Its one thing to get busted, its another to have two close calls in four months and not get out.

The investigation into Hurd's attempt to buy large amounts of cocaine and marijuana began in July 2011, when he was still a member of the Dallas Cowboys, and concluded when he personally met with an undercover agent Wednesday at Morton's The Steakhouse in Rosemont.

At that meeting, Hurd told the informant that he wanted to buy "five to 10 kilograms of cocaine and 1,000 pounds of marijuana per week for distribution in the Chicago area," according to the complaint...

After they agreed on a price, the undercover agent gave Hurd a kilogram of cocaine, according to the complaint. Hurd told the agent that he plays for the Bears and would get out of practice at 5:30 p.m., at which time he would make arrangements to pay for the drugs. According to the complaint, Hurd then took the drugs and got in his car. He was promptly arrested.

Hurd hit authorities' radar in July, when a confidential informant told police that a man was attempting to obtain four kilograms of cocaine for an unknown buyer in the Dallas area. That man was later stopped by police with $88,000 in a canvas bag. He said that the car and the money belonged to Hurd. Police confiscated the money, and Hurd later contacted authorities trying to get the money back.

Hurd was interviewed by police and admitted that he owned the car and had taken the money out of the bank, but authorities found that bank records did not match the amount.

Then in August, text messages and cellular phone records from a number used by Hurd showed up in relation to four individuals who were detained in California with currency, narcotics and weapons. The complaint states that the text message content "appeared to be consistent with narcotics trafficking and possible money laundering."

WHAT A FUCKING IDIOT.
