cloning with little maintenance?

Trimming the fans is cool to a degree. Your new growth will come from the bud calyx. Not all will fire so the more the better. I usually go with nothing bigger than the first finger digit and get an average of 2 to 4 shoots per rooted cut. Even if you get just one calyx to sprout, it'll still grow toward your need.

I get the best results from my areo cloner. The thing never fails me ever. Rockwool is second best but do yourself a favor and get a warming mat for under the rockwool. Makes a world of difference in how long it takes to get roots. I like to do warming mat, perlite for about 1 inch and then the rooting cubes on top of that. This works good as well as plan B. Best to try out some different methods and see what works well for you. I tried a bubbler one time and every clone I had died. So I moved on to other methods that worked for me.

cool cool. It is already official, they are in a heated bubbler. Just a (roughly) 15x8" Tupperware container with holes drilled in the lid and an insulator to support them. They are in a PH controlled food container with no nutes or shock relievers. There is an aquarium bubblestone supplying air I added an aquarium heater. I attempted to make 6 clones and hopefully they will do great. I cut an average of a 5" clone at 45 deg and made a vertical split up the stem. I made a mistake by chopping the buds off the stems that I cloned and hopefully I wont pay for it. as of yesterday(3 days in) there is a difference in the color of the leaves but im sure some of that is normal. The stems feel perky and have not mushed up. everything looks good but were only 3 days in. Wish me luck :D many thanks everyone!---- Oh yea, don't think I tossed those buds out baby.. I picked the least budding lower branches (6 in total) from my 5 plants. I trimmed the buds off of the potential clones during the cloning process. they dried pretty fast because these weren't the most dense buds and yesterday I was lucky enough to smoke my OWN bud :) probably about 1-3g. I can't comment on the taste or smell because I have a cold right now and I cant taste anything. I cant comment on the stone because I already was :). But my eyes are working fine and I must say, this is some pretty Mj (lime green with TONS of golden hairs) for pre-mature bud, it was very cristaly. I broke out an actual microscope, I dont exactly know how to use the damn thing because this one is made for seeing culture/trays. But I was able to get an EXTREMELY close look and it was great to compare my bud to other buds in my stashbox. I still have about 3/4g that I will be trying out later today. hands down I think this bud must have been spliced with Carrot Top's DNA because, they share the same hairstyle...

It has been about 13 days and most of the leaves are some shade of green. A few have fallen off but the plants do not look compleetly dead. The roots are not showing, is this part of the shock or should I have some root action going on? Keep in mind, these cuts were budding, I expect some added delay.

I give my clones 3 weeks to put out roots. Don't play with them...just leave them be.

If your using bubble/aero cloner just keep an eye on the water level. Needs to be kept at a good level to keep the stems wet. If they dry out it will be bad news.

I've noticed a big difference in health of cuttings and clones since I made silica a regular part of my feeding regimen. Had a buddy come over and take cuttings the other day. We didn't have any razor blades so I used my trim scissors. Fresh tap water all the way. He took 'em home and left 'em be for a week and had no wilting problems whatsoever. He actually called me up to tell me this because he had taken a batch of clones from his own plants the same night and they were all wilted and shitty looking.

Recently I've dropped the rapid rooters and started cloning in straight coco and I still don't have any problems. The only time I lost cuts was from slime in a bubble cloner.

I don't do anything special, cut below the node with a sharp pair of scissors and immediately put in a glass of water. Go to my clean table and use a razor blade to make a wide cut on a nice looking node and maybe shave it a bit. I do a quick dunk in cloning gel and jam it in there unceremoniously. Spritz the inside of the dome with tap water and leave a little extra in the bottom and check on it in a few days.

I think a lot of people delay rooting by trying to feed the cutting and providing it with too much light. Dim light works best for cloning and a dark period is absolutely essential to getting roots quickly. I run 16/8 or 18/6 on my cloner (18 gal sterlite with an extension cord gorilla taped to the lid for a 23 watt daylight cfl aka ghetto fabulous) If I don't have roots in 10 days they go in the dark for 24 hours.
