Setting up (2) 4X8 Tents. Reflectors, Fans, Filters etc...

So as the thread title states, I'm setting up (2) 4x8 Tents and wanted to get some feedback from other members as to the best way to do it.

My idea right now is to setup a 8" fan outside one side of the tents to cool (4) 8"raptors in series. I also wanted to put a 6" fan connected to a 6x12(275cfm)phat filter inside each of the tents. I'm hoping that this will maintain negative pressure, to whatever degree that is possible inside of a tent.

This is basically what I'm thinking.

I'm limited by the space I have to put them in. It's 7x20, but there is a structural beam, which keeps me from using the full space. It reduces the usable space to 7x18. I plan on leaving 1.5 ft on one side and the side where the beam is will have more. I think I'll be able to walk all the way around the tents, which have doors in the front and back.

Where I live it only gets hot at night(when I'll be running these lights) for 6-8 weeks a year at most. Even then it's only over 80 after 9 for 2-3 weeks, and not by much. So there will be no AC. Also it's a very dry climate, so no real need for a dehumidifier. I'm sure all the bells and whistles would be nice, but I'm trying to keep this simple.

I do plan on installing a thermostat control for the fan which is going through the lights. My thinking is that if the tent gets too cold or hot, the fan can be sped up or slowed down(automatically). It won't be perfect by any means, but should help reduce temperature swings as much as possible.

If anyone has any ideas or suggestions feel free to chime in. Not sure if I'll do soil or coco, but it will be drippers and dtw ideally, if it is coco. Thinking about using some of those corrugated roofing panels angled slightly into a gutter. Saw a friend do it, and it seemed simple and inexpensive.

Thanks

You will have no problem maintaining negative pressure with a 6" fan in each tent, I would bump the filters up to 6x24s. I don't see your plans for an intake for the tents, or was you planning on just scrubbing the air in the tent? Things are going to get mighty toasty and stale in there if that's your plan.

here some tips for growing in tents..

make sure you can access both sides of it.
i use the sturdy poles to secure hortitrellis netting then you can really train the canopy how you want it
I use a blower per tent pulling out creating negative pressure although you could get a T and use 1 blower to pull out of both 4x8s

There will be a 6" fan in each tent, which will be scrubbing the air from inside the tent and blowing out of one of the ports on the tent. Haven't seen the tents yet, so not sure where the port is, but I know they have them out of the top or sides. There will be no intake for the tent. I figure that the 6" will pull air from the openings in the tent, since the tents are not perfectly sealed. I don't want the smell leaking out of the tent, so if I have to upgrade to an 8" to do that, I will.

Thanks for the tips Aero. I am going to try and set them up so I can walk all the way around them. The space will be tight, but it's better than nothing.

If you have a 6" fan in each tent, all you have to do is open one of the vent holes at the bottom of each tent. Another good idea is to put foot long run of ducting into one of the vent holes. If you put a dryer sheet with a rubber band over the end outside of the tent, you'll see how much dust didn't make it into your tent.

If you have 6" inline fans pulling through carbon filters and leave all the vents closed....You are going to suck the sides of those tents in bad lol....will turn your 48" width to 36" width. I would turn on the fans and slowly open vents until you see the tent stop sucking in horribly...yes the zippers and velcro do leak, but not 265CFM worth!

Yea then you are in good shape, I use a 6"x24" connected to a 6" Vortex in a dr240w with a 8" intake that draws from a dr120 with one vent open. At half speed it keeps both tents sucked in.

I run a 4" fan on my 4x4 tent and it creates quite a bit of negative pressure (enough to see the sides pulling in) so I'm sure the 6" will be just fine. My brand of tent has flapps on the bottom sides to allow the fresh air to come inside. Remember to pull out from the top and in from the bottom. I would also pull air through the lights instead of push. I also like Blockbusters better than Raptors. Good luck with the setup. Sounds like a fun project.

Thanks everyone for the tips. Once I get them setup. I'll let everyone know how they turned out.

Like Abefroman said, I figure it will have the vents or some open ports it will pull through.

I have never seen a tent that didn't have vents. If there is any chance of light leaking through your opening you can stick rigid 90 degree pipe in there. It will still allow the air to suck out and obstruct the possible incoming light

Pulling through is more efficient fan wise (inline fans are a little better at pulling than pushing) BUT....if your reflectors are not absolutely sealed, you are putting a suction on them so you will be pulling unfiltered air out of the room through any leakes.
