bugs suck.........hydro is not an option in hot ass fl.......res temps killed me.

i use powder DE (Diatomaceous) in my coco to control most bugs in the medium. it clumps like wet flour if not mixed into top layer of soil so be careful if you top dress any.

good luck
You tried E&F or drip through hydroton?

Careful with DE... always make sure it's completely mixed in... last thing you need is a mini-cloud of de blowing around after it dries out. Not good to breathe and not good to smoke.
Always preferred to mix that directly into the soil.

Stay Safe! :blowbubbles:

Argh, what is it Murphy's Law when if something can go wrong it does. However, I popped 5/5 NYCD to test the stock of a new store only got 2. Then of the two, the healthiest ( bushy and side branches galore that would've filled a scrog so nicely) turns out to be the shortest fattest male I ever produced.

So the bright side is that if you're using gypsy stock fem'd I wouldn't worry a bit. I tried some of their non fem'd seed stock, and they always had great female to male ratios so I'm sure the fem's will bring you some Christmas girls (Knocks on wood). Also 3x the females I'll have because of taking my silly risk :(

For future medium purchases I gave coco coir a run, and even used it in flower potters outdoors for better drainage, always hear people warning about flushing the coco first as there can be calcium/mag/salt build ups. I had a bag with small holes all over it, which did originally make me weary of bugs entering it but it did help for flushing the bags lol (they were designed in the bag not punctures). So I guess it depends what the Hydroshop or eshop selling keeps said bags :(

I'll be checking in, been so interested in LED grows, close to building my own unit with computer heat sinks to go with some pll lighting. However best of luck till you're next update.

Final update

Well sometimes things arent meant to be. This grow started off shaky and never got better. I discovered male pre flowers on the plant, so this run is done.... Between the light being broken, the bugs in the soil, and now this, I figure it's a good time to take a holiday break.

My camera isnt good enough to zoom in and snap a shot of the balls so I will just leave it at that.

My thoughts on the LED are - it would be great for a small apartment grow, housing a mother plant, or starting seeds and clones.

The tent I wouldnt waste money on, with all the pinholes and ports your better off building a box.

I dont think I will ever buy Ocean Forest soil again either, that was the worst batch I have ever seen.

I actually gave the 3 other C-99 plants to a friend at a dispensary so I will have to contact her and see how hers turned out. Im not one of these people that piss and moan about these sort of things, it just happens so I will move on from here.

I would like to thank everyone that followed along, and Im sorry it didnt turn out the way we would have liked. I hope everyone has a Merry Christmas and is in good health, spend time with your loved ones if you can.

I got so tired of fungus gnats that I now make my own soil less soil mix. Lo and behold I don't have bugs anymore. Got a bag of happy frog and got gnats, so back to my own soil. To bad about your run.

GreenGooma

I throw some mosquito dunks in a bucket of water and use that to water the plants a couple of times; wipes those gnats right out.

I have never in my life heard of mosquito dunk bits. Are they safe, I mean are there any ill effects on the body? Will the plant soak that up?

Next time give Espoma's Organic Potting Mix a try. It comes in small bags, 1 cf, and 2 cf bags. It's wonderful, no bugs, and it's just a little bit cheaper than Ocean forest.
