What's new

Looking for Opinions on my Soil Recipe

This is what I use today:

60% promix hp
30% perlite
10% worm castings

To this I've added:

2 tbsp/gallon of bone meal
2 tbsp/gallon of dolomite lime
1 tbsp/gallon of blood meal
1 tbsp/gallon of kelp meal

I pre-soaked my soil adding 1 tbsp of liquid karma per gallon of water.

I also use Botanicare Pure Blend grow and bloom.

******

Now what can I do to make this better? I was planning on adding a scoop of my home compost to each 2 gallon container. Any other ideas?

Thanks,

Be careful with the pure blend. If you have those meals in ur mix already, it will take you quite far in the cycle.

Make sure you let it sit for a minimum of 2 full weeks and I think your set.

More EWC's won't hurt either, but I think you'll be fine.

get 10% more EWC or compost. Maybe make your mix as is, then top dress with 1/2-1" of compost, get those microbes alive and working.

Substitute half of the perlite for some zeolite, and the other half with freshwater diatomite :D This should definitely improve your results.

Maybe it's just me, but I find perlite to be overrated and not optimal by any means. Diatomite and zeolite will make your soil mix incredibly microporous (more like nanoporous!) and it'll support a lot more life, microbially and fungally, while still allowing for effortless aeration. There are so many other benefits on top of this, but I will refrain (for now) from posting in essay-format.

I do 40% pro mix, 40% Fox farm ocean Forest, and 20% perlite. This means you don't have to use tons of worm castings, guanos, and other organic additives, because FFOF already has a bunch inside. After I mix it up I still add a couple tablespoons of dolomite lime, guano, bone meal, and fungi powder. Use whatever ingredients you can find locally. Don't spend too much money adding guano, kelp, etc as it can add up fast. I think Ocean Forest helps in that department.
