How long has this problem been going on? Off and on for year
Are you growing in a PVC grow tent? (example: Hydrohut or any other non brand tents) Using BCNL bloombox
What system are you running? (DWC? Ebb flow? Aero? DWC
Water Farm? Flood Tables? and so on...)
What STRAIN are you growing? affected plant is pineapple express, but also growing blue cheeze, afghan mafia, sour slut, bubble gum kush
What was the establishing technique? (Were the seed or clone?) clone
What is the age of your plants? 4 weeks into flower spotted leaf
How long have they been in there mixture they are in now?(coco, soiless etc..) Just changed res 2 days ago
How tall are the plants?
What PHASE are the plants in? (seedling, vegetative or flower) are the plants in? pics are in flowering
What Technique are you using?
What substrate/medium are you using?(Hydroton, RockWool etc.) Rockwool
What is the Water temperature? 65
What color are your roots? White? Brown? Are your roots slimy? brown, some new growth, then brown again, that's the cycle im trying to break....
What Nutrient's are you using?(If growing soiless) AN
How much of each nutrient are you using with how much water? *Knowing the brand is very helpful* it's a8 gal res, so i use 1 tsp of sensi a, 1 tsp of sensi b, b-52, bud candy
How often are you feeding? (If using soiless)
How often are you giving nutrients? (If using soiless)
If flowering, when did you switch over to using Bloom nutrients? usually wait until plants are about 12-14 inches
What order are you mixing your nutrients? (example: veg nutes 1st, bloom 2nd ect) a, b, b-52, candy
What is the TDS/EC/PPM you are using i like to keep around 500 ppm- higher and i see root burn- can't figure out how people can run dwc over 600 ppm without nute burn...
What is the pH of the "Tank"? swings between 5.606
How often are you testing your pH/PPM/EC/TDS?daily
Are you sure your calibration is correct on your equipment?yes
When was your last watering?
What is your water temps?65
When was your last feeding change? (ie. grow-bloom-micro-additional) 3 days ago
How often do you clean your system: example: Flush out water replace with clean water and nutrients?every 3 or so weeks
What size bulb are you using? 400
How old is the bulbs you are using? less than 1 yr
What is the distance to the canopy? over 1 ft
What is your RH Factor(Relative Humidity)? 50
What is the canopy temperature?75
What is the Day/Night Temp? (Include flucutaion range)65-75
What is the current Air Flow? (cfm etc.)
Tell us about your ventilation, intake exhaust and when its running and not running ?exhaust to outside
Is the fan blowing directly at plants? have a small fan for circulating
Is your water HARD or SOFT? hard, so RO
What water are you using? Reverse Osmosis (RO)? Tap? Bottled? Well water? Distilled? Mineral Water?
If using tap water, what is the ppm/EC/TDS of the water right out of the tap?
If using RO,Distilled, mineral water, what is the ppm/EC/TDS without any additives? 0
Are you using water from a water softener?no
Has plant been recently pruned, cloned off of or pinched
Have any pest chemicals been used? If so, What and When? none
Are plant's infected with pest's
NO

Also have tons of airstones (added a commercial pump with 8 more stones, thing is churning pretty heavily so i dont think DO is an issue. Cant seem to dial this in...i thought my ppm was to high, so try to keep around 450 or so.. The affected plant you see is the pineapple- which is pretty hearty and never had problems- this happened over a couple days. once i spotted, i changed the nutes (3 days ago) plant seems to be recovering..but the rest of the plants are stunted, poor root developement., hard purple stems...Pic of finished plant is bubblegum kush. it finished well, and as you can see, healthy. I just want to figure out if im over-fert these things, or not enough fert i've tried lucas formula at 1000 ppm and my roots (even ones that are pretty developed and healty) immediately turn brown, and the leaves exhibit nute burn... Help a brother out

The middle photo shows signs of a calcium/ magnesium deficiency, also if you use EC it eliminates us knowing what scale your using - .5 or .7 To me it doesn't look as if your over ferting anything maybe just a micro nute problem. Aquashield might help with the browning roots, the plants tend to stop growing roots once they go into flowering and force all activity to the tops.

Good luck, Peace

Hey Stella,

Wondering if the PE isn't just nute sensitive? Don't get the root browning though. Hmmm.

Since the others are doing fine in the same setup.... I'd really look at the PE itself. Maybe just a money saver, eh? More with less nutes? LOL

im thinking the water might be too cold? that would account for some of the issues... The PE has been one of my best producers, and the only thing that has changed over the past month or so is my basement temps- hence the res. temps go down...any sanity to that thinking? NO gnats...but most of the plants are exhibiting the same issues... Don't want to add cal/mag at this point, everything was doing fine without them...Afraid to change anything else at this point, (like lucas-which for some reason at the recommended ppm totally nukes my plants) So here's the steps i've taken... Lowered the ppm to 450 (btw i called the manufacture of the DS gauge to see what conversion value they used, they told me that it doesn't use a "typical conversion value" and went on about shit i coulndt understand..)and lowered the ph to 5.4. BUT i've been using this meter for ebb n flow system 20 years ago, and had no problems keeping everything at about 1200 ppm. My thoughts are that DWC -having the roots in the solution 24/7 can't handle that- correct? So i've been keeping the values between 400-500 ppm in my system, and have had NO issues like this before. Hydro, after lowering the ph yesterday to 5.4 it dropped to 4.9 overnight...Root ROt? Should i add epsom? i do have a fireplace i could add ash... ARGHHH I just DONNO...

take a big magnifier and look at the roots - I'm betting you have root aphids. The black flyiers are the egg laden explorers looking for new terratory. They only come out whe the population is maxed in one place.

It will be a struggle for the plant to flower and recover. The bugs stress the shit our of the plants - obvisiously.

Here's a long thread - check the pix at the beginining

Rot or Aphids... your pH shouldn't drop like that unless your plants aren't eating at all and the water is just evaping. Rot also drops pH like mad, when it's bad.

Gotta be a bug problem... too much DO for conventional rot.

PE being what it is... I'd say it's just not strong enough to fight it off like the others are.

Just checked with my 100x micro- although the roots are brown, i see nothing else in their system, so im going with root rot, perhaps from temps or over fert (it did climb to 600 ppm for a couple days) no fliers around either...gonna drop the ppm down another 100 or so and see if they show signs of recovery. The b-52 might be discoloring the roots as welll, as they don't have that dead earth smell im familiar with..Thank heavens for that. Oh, im gonna get some fresh nutes too...these are over 6 months old...
