well if it happens. just like cars with computers i will have one that has none of that shit.

Why is it important to you that other people can shoot your gun?

The only reason I would ever see myself getting a gun is for hunting, and there's really no value for something like this in a hunting gun as it's not like a deer is going to grab your gun and shoot you. So I doubt they would be ever added to them.

But if the gun might be used in close combat situations, say if I was a cop or a robber, I would see value in a feature like this for sure.

As a general safety measure it's a horrible idea. Unless they make the entire gun computer controlled removing the safety will be child's play, literally, and therefore leaving the gun around kids would still be a recipe for disaster. Store guns in a locked closet and teach the kids to respect them.

Haha. Reminds me of the Simpsons episode where Homer gets a gun.

Aren't the safety "features" the result of law suit settlements? Not gov. regs. All the labels on ladders are. Keep things real tric not make believe, ok? And the name calling, it doesn't become you or help your believes.

But more to the point, I've seen on th tv them making a gun as described for cops and they had to wear a ring to fire the weapon.
I think I saw that..did they not have a problem with the ring placement not allowing the weapon to fire ???

The best way to stop kids accidentally killing themselves with guns is to not have them, failing that, it doesnt take a genius to realise that a secure metal cabinet or even a safe is essential.

500 kids a year die due to firearm accidents.
2,542 kids die each year in auto accidents.

Half of those automobile deaths could be prevented with seat belts and or proper restraints.

How about you invent a way to stop stupid people from letting their kids ride in a car without using seat belts?

I was simply asking if a safety device was invented or not.

I have no political slant.

I was just curious.

Feel free to use this thread to discuss other inventions.

I am sure there are alot of creative people here.

So please let there be peace in this thread.

I was just asking about a special type of biometric lock.

Peace.

Totally off topic dude.

You are worried about 500 deaths, I am worried about 2,500 deaths.
Sorry for partying.

The cost added to each firearm would be prohibitive.

I imagine that this device would be battery operated. That right there is a problem. My gun sits untouched for sometimes longer than a year. I can't call a timeout to put in new batteries if something happens. I wouldn't want a very reliable .357 magnum to be disabled by a malfunctioning safety device or a bad battery.

I recently read an article that advocated putting a safety device on saws to stop people from cutting their fingers off.
http://www.businessweek.com/magazine/content/11_25/b4233032712156.htm (this is not the op-ed I read, it is a different article)

4,000 people a year lose fingers to table saws.

I do not see why I should have to pay $100 for a safety feature added to a tool that cost me about $100.

I understand there are inherent risks associated with using a table saw. I understand that a table saw could potentially kill me.

I can live with that, or pay someone else to cut wood for me.

I would not like to see something mandated that would add so much cost and make weapons unreliable.

I could see it used in some situations, but would hate to see something like this mandated.

It might also cause people to become even less safe with firearms. If you only had experienced a firearm that wouldn't fire when you tried to touch it off, you might fire an unsecured weapon accidentally.

just because an idea is unique enough to warrant a new patent dosent mean it is a good idea or maketable and just b/c an idea is good dosent mean it will be profitable or accepted by the target market.

when allen breed invented the actuator / ignitor for airbags he was ignored by the automotive industry b/c they felt that the consumers werent worried about the potential benefits of air bags in cars. now it would be hard to imagine a new car w/o airbags.

OP, feel free to pm me with any questions regarding your question and patents related to what your describing.

and for those who disagree.......continue with the neg rep. i guess i shouldnt assume you possess the ability articulate anything.

invent a gun that will not commit a crime!

this is a parody.

for all intents and purposes (not directed at anyone, hehe) a gun that must have input before being able to be discharged. fill out a form, fire up the generator, input data, verify data, arm, aim, discharge...

or a smart bullet, only injures/kills if danger exists...

or fires five gallon buckets...

or marshmallows.

the person commits the crime.......the gun is the instrument of fear.
