My seedlings are becoming yellow?

I just started growing about ten days ago, and my seedlings are already showing signs of problems. The tips of the leaves are starting to yellow, spreading to edges of the leaves. Is this magnesium deficiency or nitrogen problems? Or is my pH off? I watered using tap water and once with bottled water, so is the soil loaded with sodium?
Thanks for your help!

How long has this problem been going on?
What STRAIN are you growing? Bag seed
What was the establishing technique? seed
What is the age of your plants? around ten days
How long have they been in the soil mixture they are in now? 9 days
Were they in the same mixture when they were seedlings/smaller plant? yeah
How Tall are the plants? 2-3 inches
What PHASE seedling

What substrate/medium are you using? What brand of soil mixture are you using?(percentage of perlite, vermiculite...etc?)
Pre mixed potting soil with fertilizer already mixed in (miracle grow stuff)
What brand Nutrient's are you using? none

How often are you feeding? have not started yet

What is the pH of the "RUN-OFF"? Have not tested yet

How often are you testing pH/ppm/EC/TDS?
What method of pH test was administered? Using Strips? pH pen?
tested tap water with Ph Strips, they tested yellowish (pH ~6)
How often are you watering? Twice so far
When was your last feeding and how often are you feeding?
Haven't added nutrients yet
What size bulb are you using? 50W Metal halide, was using a 13W cool white CFL to sprout them
How old is your bulbs? New
What is the distance to the canopy? 7-8 inches

Tell us about your ventilation, intake exhaust and when its running and not running ? I have a 120mm fan that I am able to control the speed of. It runs 24/7 along with the lights.
Is the fan blowing directly at plants? No, the fan sucks air from a level around the middle of the cups
Is the grow substrate constantly wet or moist?
I try to let it dry out before I water again

Yes. That's normal.

If you'd like to relieve a little bit of stress... do a search for MG soil (the kind you're using) and look at the seedling pics and the issues (and solutions) that folks have had and used. Lots of great info on here for you. :D

The regular MG soil is really hot for seedlings and they tend to take some abuse... it CAN be used though. Haven't used the 'organic' variety but that info is around here as well.

p.s. Have you read up on "Hempy Buckets"? Suuuuuper easy with Maxibloom and a pH drops kit. :D

give yr seedlings a half strength feed and watch them closely. looks like N deficiency to me which is not surprising seeing as yr soil's got all that organic stuff in it ... which is probly decomposing and using available N for decomposition ... leaving none for yr seedlings.

RELAX!

Just looks like overwatering to me and that Miracle grow Organic is full of Chicken shit which is VERY nitrogen rich, I don't think it's a lack of nitrogen at all.

Just my 2 cents

I agree. Let them dry out before watering. Not till they droop, but till the cup is light.

Get some perlite and mix about 25% with that MG stuff and re-pot those into slightly larger cups. Water them an hour before hand and gently break up the dirt around the roots before transplanting them into moist mix.

Shouldn't need to water for almost a week with a 32oz cup.

I'll third that, your plants look like they have multiple deficiencies most likely caused by the medium staying too wet or cold and wet.

New growers often over water their plants because they give them too much attention. When they see the top of the medium is dry looking they water the plant, what they should do is wait for the plant to start to droop a little, pick the cup or pot up and make a mental note how heavy it is when it needs watered. Then water the plant slowly (give it a little water and let it soak it up) until the water runs out the bottom of the cup/pot. Then once again pick up the cup or pot and make a mental note how heavy it is when it doesn't need watered. Now you will know for sure if you should water your plants.

I would think that if that is organic soil it should have plenty of nutrients in it to last those plants at least until they are 4 or 5 weeks old. I'm not a fan of mg potting mix, but I know quite a few people who swear by it.

Is there any way you can get some Fox Farms Light Warrior (seedling mix) or Ocean Forest (hotter but will work)? It would definitely be worth getting a bag of it and dropping some more beans.

Good Luck

Now that I think about it it has been getting pretty cold at night here. Should I turn off my fan? Where could I get the soil mixes that you mentioned?

That depends on how cold it's getting, they will be fine in the 60's lights out as long as they are getting in the mid to upper 70s lights on. If your environment is cold you will have problems and slow growth. You should be able to get that mix at the hydro shop, or if you don't have one locally call around to some of the local nurseries or garden centers.

hey man
so first thing is u should re pot the girls in bigger pots with holes in it for drainage ,if u buy regular pots just make holes in the bottom and sides ,trust me its betteri can see the cups they are too small and u didnt put enough soil inside ,i can see the roots everywhere ,they need more space
than u should get ph and ec meter its very important
about insects u should watch girls closely ,if u can catch that bug ass u should do it and make a pic and post here than ppl can help
now they are small and u can easy kill all the bugs
but i am quiet sure its not enough space for roots u should repot the girls asap
i had the same problem my first grow
also buy proper soil man its cheap like biobizz light mix or all mix ,all soil is fine just water them when the pots are light ,when u pot them in bigger pots put a lot of water inside and pick the pot up and feel how heavy it is ,than u just wait few days till pots are light than water again ,but the fellow gardeners told u so before already
dont worry they will be fine

thx best regards

Wow it was a long weekend. I got the plants repotted in larger containers (regular miracle gro with added perlite) and added two 23W cool white CFLs into my PC. One plant seems to be doing great but the other two look worse: almost zombie like. I think I might be physically burning these two plants due to excessive light, but I am not sure, since the healthy plant is directly under its own 23W CFL. The lighting makes the plants look better than they are: The real color is more like a pale yellow with green veins
