buy tanita or be dooomed to a lifetime of buying new scales.

I can tell you that any set of scales that comes with calibration weights should be avoided.

This is an excellent website for a scale purchase and they have all kinds of options at all kinds of prices: http://www.balances.com/

Here is another site which gives you some info on the different scale manufacturers: http://digitalscale.com/brands.htm

Can you explain why calibration weights should not be included? Personally I want to know if my $400 scale is reading accurately and precisely at .01 grams and the only way to know for sure is with calibration weights.

I took my eldest son to look at university - the triple beam was BOLTED to steel plate, and that was bolted to table...

Ya think they caught on to us???

What is this world coming to when ya can't even steal a nice scale from school???

The education system is fucked...

Yea, I definitely would want some calibration weights just to be sure. Oh man, I remember when I actually hit like diamond weight or some shit, and I gave everybody like 50% more then I was supposed to. Luckily for me, my friends are good people.

I just get the cheap kind that has the increments I want and always weigh a gram or so over so I am never under and always seem to get a smile :D

Harbor Freight - big electronic gram scales for about $30 bucks,

Another source is any hobby site that deals with RC planes /helicopters. Flying models requires very precise weight measurements for tuning/proper flght.

Triple Beams are the greatest! Especially when you have the added weights on the side so it can weigh more. I got so many from my high school.

They are the best for sure but what if you have long since gotten rid of the one you stole from high school and now wanna purchase one. I haven't seen one available anywhere other than about 10 years back, the dial-o-beam, which just didn't cut it like the original triple beam :D o the good ole days lol

Ebay, many sellers, direct from China, you will be stunned at how low the prices are.
I picked up 5 digital pocket scales for $25 shipping included.
Same scales my local headshop sales for over $30 each
There is a massive selection of different ones, and you will not find them cheaper then getting them right from china
At $5 each for the ones I got I treat them like disposable lighters, when one stops working I throw it away and grab another, they seem to be good for at least a year though

I agree with Kali... I purchased 2 scales... a larger one that weighs up to 30kilo (for my brewery) AND one for weighing smaller 'bag size' weights for about half of what the local vendors wanted for the smaller of the 2... the place Classy mention is good too... not just for scales either! I got an 40 and an 80 power scope for less than what most people wanted for shipping alone! Great site... you don't need to spend a ton these days unless you're weighing fly's wings... scales have almost become disposable these days...

I've been through too many cheap scales to buy another.

I guess I'm buying a triple beam from Staples. This one: http://www.staples.com/Salter-Brecknell-Triple-Beam-Pan-Balance-Scale/product_662687

You must be very hard on ur stuff.. I've had the same cheap digital scale for 4 years and it still works fine.. i've never even changed the batteries.. and I do have a calibration weight and it's still dead nutz on.. BUT.. good luck with your very nice triple beam.. I used to have an Ohaus Dialogram.. the thing rocked.. but not very portable..

I tried two of those harbor freight scales, and they're not reliable. The big one broke on me, and the little "pocket" scale eats watch batteries like they're cheerios. And those batteries aren't cheap! Two cost $8. I said screw it and got an ohaus.

Look for a scale that uses AAA or AA batteries and avoid the cheap ones. There's nothing more frustrating than needing to use a scale only to find out that yours is broken.
