Anyone have any super basic ideas/ pictures for a DIY DWC set up. Im doing soil now but want to cut back and do a couple DWC set ups. Thanks Guys! :comfort:

Yep, pretty much the same concept. For seedlings/small clones with small root systems, the roots should be submerged. Once a root system develops, I like to let the res level drop to several inches below the net pot, or in my case pool noodle. That way the roots can absorb oxygen from the airspace as well as from the water. It also is a bit of insurance in case the pump fails. The roots can still absorb oxygen from the airspace and won't drown like they would if fully submerged.

what size pump is good? and if im using a clone how do i keep it from falling through if the stem is much much smaller than the noodle hole (P.S. Great concept on that thread def. diggin it!)

im doin the same thing with the pool noodles just on a smaler scale ina cloner. i have pics of the cloner in my post in the micro forums.
also theres plenty of cheap dwc, same thing goes for a big or small grow, anything that can hold water, an air stone, and has a lid to hold the medium can be used as a dwc. plastic coffee cans, candy/nut containers, rubermaid tubs, buckets etc.... (disco biscut has a dwc solo cup in his thread in micro).

i have a few pics of plants in 3 different "micro" dwc containers in my albums.( plastic foldgers coffee cans, plastic candy containers, rubermaid sweaterbox.)
i started doin half soil and half hydro dwc my first grow to see what i liked better. been using dwc and maxibloom ever sence.
good luck with ur switch to hydro.

the clone should fit snug into the noodle. you may have to do a few test cuts with the noodle to get the rite fit. generally the pool noodle is cut into a "pacman" looking shape. also before u put a clone in make sure theres no real light leaks between the noodle and the container lid.

how far should water be from roots

(This all assumes use of net cups) Depends on the stage. An air gap of 1-2 inches is used with mature plants in net cups. Add the depth of the net cup and the gap is 6-7 inches below the lid.

Seedlings or clones (again in net cups) can dehydrate and die in less time than a good nights sleep and so, I recommend no airgap at all until roots are several inches long.

P.S. The smaller the res the faster the disaster. a 5 gal pot holds 2-3 gal of nuts. If you're there every day, great. If you want time off here and there, consider a larger tub.

How are you cutting the noodle rollin machine? im picturing it with the hole in the middle of it sitting vertical and isnt the hole 1/2 inch thick roughly?

Cut the noodle into donuts. Slit the side of the donut. Now it's a "C" that you can roll as tight or loose as you want.

the cloner, cut noodle to fit in holes, and the un-cut noodle with cut lines.(cut lines are where "I" need to cut it to fit in my cloner.) hope this helps. trial and error to get it to fit rite first before u cut multiple unusable disks off the noodle.

i have a question about this too....lol. has anyone chopped 1 of these up and used it like rockwol or coco cubes as a medium??? would be a very cheap substitute if it worked.(i had lots of scrap pieces tryin to get the size rite for the cloner)

FB - I haven't run into the disaster scenario, but it could happen. In my grows, the tubs rarely needed topping up until nearly the end, when plants were almost ready. I would do a rez change weekly or bi-weekly, w/ 24 hr flush in between empty and fill.

We have people doing "DWC" in a shot glass. Res size does not guarantee success or failure but, a larger tub is more forgiving. Mine allows absences of 2-3 weeks and res changes 1-2 times in a six month flowering period. However, Classy does the small bucket thing and I do not so Classy's advice here trumps mine.

Interesting - engage everyone else in some kind of dialogue/thanks for their submissions, none to me but a lol referencing my suggestion...

Nice - good luck...

Don't bother with a belated anything - you are on "ignore" - your attitude will bring you plenty of K, be ready for it...

Chill out........ I wasnt dismissing your comments I was just replying to what you stated about bucket size ya dont need to over analyze every word i said. I value all the help i am given and im sorry I didnt address you specifically to say thank you. Kinda figured it was implied when i posted
