A British Columbia man says he found two RCMP spy cameras hidden on his property, and the Mounties want them back. According to several reports, police raided Dion Nordick's home in Grand Forks, about 600 km east of Vancouver, in June. They were looking for marijuana.
Soon after, Nordick saw flashes coming from some trees and discovered the recording equipment. He said the cameras' memory cards contain more than 200 images, many of them sensitive surveillance and crime scene photos.
He wants an explanation why police put spy cameras on private property.
The RCMP has told him to return the cameras, but Nordick is having his lawyer, Jesse Gelber, hold on to them until the situation is sorted out.

Fuck 'em - I'd have new cameras...

Or "I saw them, but somebody else musta scooped 'em. Sorry"

Are they actually trying to say they put cameras out using memory cards that contained photos from other operations ? Cameras that are supposed to be covert that cause "flashes in the trees"?
Durp!

Erase said images, and refill with pictures of midget porn.
These are rcmp cams - probably already have it on there...

Police in Grand Forks, B.C., will no longer recycle the memory cards in their surveillance cameras after two of them, loaded with images of investigations and crime scenes, fell into the hands of a civilian.

"In the future ... we'll use a brand new one in any cameras that go outside," Staff Sgt. Dan Seibel told QMI Agency.

Dion Nordick says two motion-activated spy cameras were hidden in trees on his property in the town about 600 km east of Vancouver. Police say they were not, in fact, on his property but pointed at the driveway of the home he rents, to photograph vehicles coming and going.

"The RCMP is well familiar with case law with respect to privacy," Seibel said. "Certainly we would not jeopardize an investigation by putting up illegal cameras -- it would only make any evidence obtained be dismissed."

The surveillance was part of a marijuana grow-op investigation police were conducting in June. More than 200 images from other investigations were either not deleted or not properly deleted from the memory cards inside.

Nordick is having his lawyer, Jesse Gelber, hold on to the equipment until the situation is sorted out.

Seibel said the RCMP has been corresponding for several months with Gelber and has explained that the police were acting within their legal authority.

"What detail Mr. Gelber is looking for I guess will be determined when I speak with him," Seibel said.

"There's no question that the cameras and contents are property of the RCMP and the Government of Canada, and we want to get those back."
The thot plickens...

Abandoned property - found. Someone owns the land they were on, but isn't it a case of finders keepers, leo asshole weepers...

I love the old pics part - plainclothes leo faces, past persons/places under surveillance, intimate pics from rcmp shower rooms, upskirt shots from off duty "stairway" investigations???

Stay tuned - and stoned...

cameras save them a lot of man hours. In Nova Scotia they seem to use them on every second person you talk to.Apparently a local hydro shop had RCMP cameras on his property for a year or two cause they caught him selling clones so a deal was made to get liscense plate #,s of the customers..Luckily af knew the camera installer (contractor) and let the cat outta the bag.No doubt his biz dropped considerably.
I think some of these cameras are just to gather info for the cops and are used to pop the odd grower from time to time, and the camera isn,t used as evidence in court,as most guys cop a plea for probation or house arrest when they get busted.

Just got done reading this on yahoo page, then come here and bam, double trouble.

My opinion - He found em on his land, he owns em. If leo wants em back, they can bid on E-bay. Set a high reserve dude...

i would contact the head of the local drug unit and say that they can have their cameras back (minus the card) if they have the constable that placed them there come by and apologize for invading my family's privacy without just cause don't worry no one will ever show up it will just be fun watching the rcmp blame game

They just keep digging themselves deeper. Nice police force our country has. I figure in the not so distant future, when the RCMP are mentioned involved in something, people will assume corruption will follow. Peace GS

I would have gave the cameras to charity while leaving cheap plastic imitations on the exact same places.

Monitor leo w/ their own cams...

Monitor leo w/ their own cams...

I would get rid of them and claim to never know they were even there.
I thought about that too - say not a fucking thing, and score some nice hardware - use the cams on my property looking out - hidden so leo can't steal 'em back... Fuck 'em...
