Switching Nutes Mid Veg

Hello everyone, had a question for the coco experts out there. This is my first coco grow, I am growing in Roots Organics Soiless Hydroponic Coco mix using the Roots Nutrient line. Im not happy with the results I am getting from the Roots, plants are constantly looking unhealthy and some are gowing healthy some are not. I am about to run out of my roots nutrients and was curious if switching products was an option. I would like to switch to a coco specific nute like canna or house and garden. Is this a good idea? thanks

I would recommend switching off of the Roots Organics nutrients and into something else. Their nutrient system does lack in a few ways. I would recommend that you look into either General Organics or Botanicare CNS17.

When plants aren't looking healthy in veg it is 9 times out of 10 a root zone issue. My suggestion to you regardless of what you pick is to begin using a Seaweed/Kelp supplement. I really like General Organics BioWeed but there are many to choose from. A combination of BioWeed and BioRoot (both under $15 a quart and used sparingly) could dramatically improve your plants ability to uptake nutrition and moisture, which always results in bigger harvests.

CNS17 Coco/Soil is a great coco nutrient line and it requires zero supplementation. I do like to add some silicon and the Hydroplex for flowering supplementation (2ml/gallon) but they don't really need it. Iron is usually the missing element in a nutrient lineup, so making sure that whatever you choose includes chelated iron will improve the look your plants almost over-night.

well im out of the roots nutes and going to the hydro store today, going to go with either CNS17 or H&G coco. Any more suggestions would be appreciated. How much should i flush with? Should the flush be with plain PH'ed water or with the new nutrients? Im thinking if I have 80+ % runnoff with the new nutrients on my first feeding I will be fine. Thanks guys

I'd run about 50% for the first 3-4 feedings. There is an ebb/flow of elements so it usually takes more than one good rinse to reset both the media and the plant. 6 Liters in and 3 Liters out should do a fine job if you repeat the process at each feeding for the first few days.

Personally I like the CNS17 because it's a one-part system. This eliminates an extra measuring step, although you still use the same total volume of solution. H&G has a pretty good npk ratio but you are locked in for the rest of the grow. Another reason I like the CNS17 is they have Grow for Veg, Bloom for early flowering, and Ripe for late flowering.

Good luck at the store. I doubt they will carry the CNS17 because it's too good of a value. The Hydro store can't make money on the stuff which is why they push all that Dutch crap. The markup is much better for them.

The grower always pays the price.

I'm also growing in roots organic coco coir, 3-liter pots but I'm using Jack Classics ferts from the local nursery here and so far no issues at all. I personally think canna products are over-priced and over-hyped with superb marketing techniques.
