Royal Mail postman failed to deliver 30,000 items of mail
transparent.gif

Apostman who hoarded 30,000 letters and parcels in his house, car and a garage, has been ordered to do 280 hours of unpaid work.

Paul Willicott claimed that he did not have enough time to deliver all the mail he was expected to handle during his four-hour round. He became so overwhelmed he ended up stashing unopened mail in his car and in his home in Paignton, Devon.

Willicott, 44, told magistrates in Torbay that his intention was to deliver all the mail when his workload was lighter but that he was never able to catch up.

David Thompson, chair of the bench, told Willicott it was "an extremely serious matter". He said: "People have a right to expect their mail to appear at the appointed time. This was a large amount of mail, it was obviously taken over a large period of time. It constitutes a significant breach of trust."

We hear stories about this from time to time. I never understand how these mail carriers are getting so backed up, is it laziness, too old? The last one I can remember they said the mail carrier was renting a freaking storage locker to store all the thousands and thousands of pieces of mail he couldn't deliver.

There was one doing the same shit locally...

Boo fucking hoo - it's soooo hard doing almost nothing, for outrageous money - sob sob...

The one around here was a temp, filling in for someone on maternity leave - gave some whiney excuse about the route taking 9 to 13 hours some day (complete horseshit).

I'm outta work right now - I'd kill to get a gig like postie - impossible to get in unless you swallow.

Lazy bastards...

A friend of mine lives in Surrey & mail he was expecting frequently went missing , the final straw came when his daughter recieved an invataion card to a party that was credit card size . The edge of the envelope was torn & the card placed back in envelope before being placed through his door .
When he phoned the sorting office to complain about the postman stealing post the manager admitted that they know it goes on particuarly with the foreigners they employ but are powerless to do anything about it unless he is caught red handed .
If the Post Office insist on employing East Europeans that they cannot security check then there will always be a problem .

I can see why Paul Willicott lost his job & Devon police said that the number of Guerilla cannabis sites around this part of Torbay have been thin on the ground for the last couple of years .

Every time these cases hit the media more people and businesses switch to other carriers , shows a total lack of auditing and monitering that it could go unnoticed.

On the other hand , if its all junk mail well done , 40 ish items a week of this crap here.

Costs a fiver now to have any real guarantee of a delivery , unfortunately the only things i still use mail for now are all hard to replace and require it.

Maybe one lucky grower got his long lost seeds finally delivered ......

It does seem like there have been more letters from the bay or bou going missing lately. I lost one recently too. Makes me want to wait until after thanksgiving to order again.

he's claiming he did not have enough time to deliver it, but i doubt that is the case. I'm thinking he was either really really lazy, or was hitting the bar for happy hour.
i wonder how often he did it, and what percentage of the daily mail he stashed away.

kind of like when you pay a punk teenager to put fliers on windshields. if you don't tell that little shit you are watching him, he's just going to dump a whole bunch in the trash.

after I got out of the military I worked in the sort room of a post office in a small city and I shit you not it was one of the most frustrating/stressful jobs I've ever had. The volume/quota of mail they expected me to sort every hour was insane. I lasted 2 months before I started cracking up, even with all the benefits it just wasnt fucking worth it...

At the other end of the spectrum, I once scored a 3 day temp job working in the head office mailroom of a huge multi national food producing company.

I worked so hard, and so well, they offered me the job full time - the money wasn't great, so I declined, but offered to stay there until they could find a full timer.

I worked so hard, and so well that one of the VPs offered me a job as his right hand man, 100% raise, office, company car and his secretary to do my paperwork. Doing something I had no experience at, but I learned really quick.

I worked for him for 2 1/2 yrs - he got fired for telling the Chairman to "go fuck himself" (it is one of my fave expressions now), but before he left, he set me up w/ another gig there, same coin...

Shitty, hard work is worth it - work hard, show up every day, smile and put some fucking effort in.

The rest will follow...
