no nutes for 3 weeks? wow, i always have horrible results when i dont give nutes. i appreciate all the info thanks

Clones dont need nutes. Seriously, I get roots on 100% of my clones these days. I have not lost a clone in a year and we are talking about ALOT of clones. My tea is actually made of this-
TGCSuperTea176.jpg

Its worm, bat, and seabird shit. It does have an NPK of .5-.5-1, so I guess they get some nutes, but I used to clone without it and always did really well. I lost a batch one time do to extreme temps that caused pythium or some kind of yuck in my cloner. After some research I began using the tea and cloning has become the simplest aspect of my grows now. I even put a heat mat under my cloner. Temps around 84f. Roots in 6 days. No worries.

Lets be careful here. He may not be using bottled nutes but he's using nutes from day one. Soil growers get away without placing additional food in the soil because soil itself is food. Water is not food, RO water is dead. If you grow in water, feed from the beginning.

I haven't been happy with the new inserts either and then this post came along and it spurred me to voice my displeasure to EZ-Clone. Today they sent me an email back. It doesn't help in the short term but it sounds like we'll be able to get the old ones back. I didn't realize they had started with the soft version to begin with so it must have been before my time as my first EZ-Clone came with the hard inserts.

Email Response:

Our neoprenes have changed. We started with the soft ones and then went to the stiff. Unfortunately many people did not like the change and therefore we went back to the soft. We know that a lot of our customers want the stiff ones back though. So we have listened to the feedback and I am happy to tell you that the stiff neoprenes will be returning. We are going to carry both the stiff and the soft so people can choose what works best for them. I do not have an exact date on when the stiff neos will be in but they are coming. We appreciate your feedback.

Lol. Yeah, man. I just learned this like an hour ago when I was calling around to online hydro shops asking if they had the old ones. A guy at one shop told me that no one will buy the soft ones and he called ezclone to bitch this morning and they gave him the good news.

I cloned for a long time with nothing more than water and clonex. For 3 weeks in the cloner with nothing else. My clones never suffered deficiencies.

Is clonex food or just rooting hormone?
