Managing my fan

I am almost finished with my grow space but need to address ventilation. This one room 3x3x6 is only going to be used to flower, because of this I have to ensure day night light controls and cooling during the day and heating at night as it is winter here.I have a 6 inch vortex that is pretty loud and I would like to control this unit with a stepdown dimmer to keep the noise down a little. I have been looking at the C.A.P. Complete Greenhouse Controller but I see nothing about controlling fan speed. I don't want it to just run full blast when it gets hot I would love to slowly ramp up or even just run it low longer.
Any help would be appreciated.

I would try to run that vortex full speed for best results homie

Homie I think the vortex is quiter hung by chains/bungee... If the fan is hard mounted with brackets it may cause more reverb

The roar of the vortex is the sign of a well ventilated and productive garden homie!!

Put rubber between mounts and wood. If you're using metal duct instead of something else such as flexible, that will increase noise. If you don't need full speed for temp control, lower fan speed. For safety, don't use a dimmer switch. I've read that they are unsafe for centrifugal fans. I used to have 2 of my 6" Vortexes, on a dimmer till I read that, and replaced them with shonuff fan speed controllers. They're not that much more expensive for peace of mind. Good luck. -granger

most vortex style fans make more noise when "dimmed" with a router or fan controller.
I own can fan and windtunnels and they all sound louder when "dimmed" with the cheap controllers.
Using a variac style autotransformer will allow you to slow this type of fan down and make it much quieter..... but at that point you may not be moving enough air to keep things cool.

because loud fan noise bothered me I now oversize my fans 2" larger than I need and run them at 50-60 percent power most of the time. when the dog days of summer arrive it's great to have the extra power available. I have a 5amp autotransformer that i plug a powerstrip into and it controls all of the fans in my grow.
here's the cheapest new units online i've found. http://www.officebeyond.com/va-130-0300.html

Thanks ChunkyP thats what I was looking for exactly as my room is very small and located next to the ac unit in a very cool room I am probably oversized as it is.

dude if it is possible, build a 3/4 plywood box to encolse that thing, and once it is in, stuff that shit full of insulation. literally could not hear the fan in the living room anymore.(my grow is in the basement right underneath the living room) Keep it Green.
