how much would it take for you to retire?

You have to count inflation into your calculations. Every 15 to 20 years your money is worth half of what it was. I'm in my 30s and it will take me at least 10 mil to retire for a decent living with vacations and all. Life is more expensive than you think and If you invest your whole stack, that's just retarded and you'll most likely be assed out later in life. I'm only in my mid 30s and have already blown over 5 mil.

Interesting topic,do you think its possible to grow your way to retirement while holding down a regular 9-5?I know a guy who has just started up a 500 plant grow,I think he plans to retire a little sooner than the rest of us.

think about it. with a job you have some security and a legal source of income you can prove. and income when disaster happens in the grow. and when the grows are all good all the better.

Definitely. The down side is that you have to spend the majority of your waking life doing something that almost definitely sucks. Or at the very least doing something you don't want to be doing.

I'd rather just drive a boring Honda and relax on the vacations than get up for the morning commute. In fact, I'd rather take the bus tbh.

All the "straight" jobs that I have had sucked the spirit out of my soul. I had no desire to keep living that way. I'd rather risk prison that go back to the corporate world.

Nice, that's a fortunate position to be in.

Me, I like growing plants and like, pacing around the living room, playing Fifa 12 and stuff, haha. I suck with my hands and I couldn't do the corporate job too well either.

I guess I'm just a misfit grower, unfit for anything else.

Are you growing enough to survive and for a pension WTS?

half of everything I earn goes to savings. But of course, all my moneys- all the moneys available to public eye- can be scrapped by the govt upon arrest.

I don't want this thread to get binned for tlaking about shady financial stuff, so I won't elaborate more than that out of respect for the TOS.

around 10 million... i want a condo in the city (700k), house in the burbs with indoor lab (350K) and house in the mountains with outdoor fields (250k). plus a fleet of cars, trucks, atvs, boat, plane w/ hanger...plus yearly expenses of around 100k to pay all the bills...

like clay davis say...SHIIIIIIIEEEEEEEEETT...

my uncle stacked up 10mil worth of property in the bay area...he kept putting down payments on new apartment complexes and houses, and rents them all out. now after 30 years....most of the properties have been paid off by his tenants and he gets steady cashflow from the rent, he can always cash out on the properties if he needed...he has never worked a 9-5 in his life..he just invests in real estate and flips houses on the side..

"Retiring" from what?

I retired from *having to* work but still do.

Not because I have to but because I love doing what I do.
Not to mention I can take a break whenever I want...for as long as I want...such as I am doing so right now.

So retiring to me is not about how much $ but what you are able to make from life...if you can.

Most are too narrow minded and entangled within themselves to be able to retire (early).

i'm so sick of the rat race here in the bay area... i'd be fine selling this overpriced cracker box to the next sucka and living on my grandparent's (tax free) homestead in fla. pond fulla cat fish, corn dodgers n collard greens, good moonshine, some boiled peenuts and an outdoor plot that needs no watering... i'm low buck happy. convincing the wife is another story.... heh.

pretty interesting that some of you pro-occupy guys need $10m to retire on... i thought capitalism sucked?

I don't know if I agree with that. I think it's more just real life intervenes, the kid gets sick and you have to throw it on a credit card, you're in a position where you can fuck someone over for money and choose not to, etc.

I don't think the working class is working because they are arrogant and dumb and up their own asses. I respect the common man. Fact is there is only so much money and most of it is reserved for children in trust funds as a birth right. That's just how capitalism works. Most people eat shit and die.

Love this too.:) And it's why no one takes the movement seriously who matters. I asked my rich banker friend what the Street thinks of the Occupy movement, he said "mostly guys just laugh at them. They just think it gives the losers something to do after work. It will end when it gets colder out."
