THRIPS !

afternoon

Blimey, I'm having a constant battle with thrips at the mo, they are feisty lil beggars, and they are all over my flowering box.
I'm so close to finishing I don't want chemicals, so I pick leaves etc and hoping for the best..... the buds are all doing ok though, which is nice..

As for the lil ones in flower, I moved them closer the door after really pelting them with this stuff I got from B&Q ( no spinosad here !!)- did it well away from garden, wore gloves, mask and glasses.

They took time to recover but they seem ok and relatively thrip free, though with 19 close to harvest they got plenty to choose from.........

Anyone else like this? Is it the weather ? what with this and a lil bit botrytis afternoon is very busy ! lol

thoughts comments and advice welcome

they like warm environments.. your grow room might be running hot and/or dry. They usually don't mess with the buds.. just leaves.

I'm really not the best guy to ask...haha

I use various sprays from the local garden centre.....but I don't like to spray anything after 4 weeks or so in flower....don't want to be smoking that shit....

Fucking thrips suck major dick bro! I think they're worse than spidermites as the adults are smart as fuck!

They can be 'controlled' using neem oil/ neem based insecticide but I found that ultimate bug killer totally shags the life out of the wee b'stards... can you tell I don't like thrips :D lol.

The other stuff that kills em dead is spinosad but this stuff is harder to get hold of than a wet bar of soap in the UK

Definitely follow up the first spray of ultimate bug killer in 3-4 days time ftw!

Fairy liquid every week does the trick.

Also...grow a Blue Meanie clone...they go to town on the Meanie and leave all else alone!!!

Been battling thrips all summer. Still havn't quite got rid of them. I was using neem on the veg plants and sponging the undersides of leafs, but left them in flower, as they dont fuck with the buds, just leaves.

I'm going to buy some of those live predators with a spray, cant remember what its called now, only 1 i could find that mentioned thrips. Loads for mites and fungus knats but nothing for thrips. I'm hoping the predators them intenive spraying and maybe more predators or the cold will finally kill them off. They dont seem to affect a plant much bar than look ugly. Must have a small ffect sucking the goodness from the leafs though.

Oh, and ive been using them sicky pads, which dont really seem to have caught much at all really. I dont see hardly any flying thrips, just the little ones under the leafs.

Hi afternoon :)

the active ingredient in ultimate bug killer dissipates in 8-9 weeks. It's really best used on moms or clones that have just rooted...

The natural control solidpac is referring to are Amblyseius cucumeris, a predatory mite which I read does well in eliminating the wee feckers... Also. Thrips are not attracted to yellow sticky traps but rather blue ones...

It's all about fucking the life cycle up if not using a systemic.

Yea, got the blue ones man, but dont seem to catch much but the odd weird looking fly or mosi. I think the predators will do the job, cheap as fuck too.

thank you shhh, great info.... I like the idea of natural

things have tailed off a lot after defoliation, use of ultimate bug killer , cleaning etc,

still I will order some of these Amblyseius cucumeris and that should do the trick

will get blue stickies to replace the yellow ones that didn't seem to do much other than catch bits of leaf .

thanks again

considering amlysius cucumeris, ... one has to watch out with humidity and temperature (else if its out of their range they wont be as effective), plus if i remember right, they need 16+ hours of daylight to continue multiplying...

am i missing something? spinosad ends thrip problems quickly, and on my side of the pond it is OMRI listed. seems like it would be available over there ...... if not, why not?
