Transplanting~

So, I'm wondering what you think.

I like to start my plants small (solo cups) and then transplant up to the next container after 2 weeks or so when they hit their 3rd or 4th set of "true leafs".

My question is, is it better to transplant to a half-gallon container, and then again to my final 2 gallon, or is it best to go directly to the final container?

It seems like the less stress the better, but it also seems like the more established the root system becomes in a small space, the more readily it adapts to its new larger space.

Thanks for looking, I look forward to your replies :dance013:

hi there

i like the beer cups too and often use those to get clones going

i had been going from the beer cups straight to 1/4, 1/2, or full gallon containers and i have not noticed much difference at all. i do want to point out that the 1/4 and 1/2 gallon containers are about as tall as the full gallon, just not as wide, my thought is that the height being taller allows the tap root to shoot down further and thus let the plant get larger. i do get to a point though, where the 1/4 and 1/2 gallon plants seem to really slow down but the full gallon plant just keeps on rocking.

3 transplants is a shit ton of work. Unless you are going to be in 5 gallon containers by flower time..I would suggest only one transplant per life cycle. Less work for you...and less stress for your plants.

Yea oister IME letting the plants get to the point of almost being rootbound, and then transplanting has given me the best results.

Thats what I thought as well. It just helps to hear it confirmed by others.

I'll keep doing it the way I have been then. Cool.
