I knew someone who got caught stealing scrap from a junk yard then tried to sell it back to the same junk yard. Some people are duuuuuuuuuuuuuuuumb.

Nope, 2 dumbass 17 year olds who got like 30 days. They got caught after the 3rd time I think.

The extra stupid thing is there was another scrap yard 15 miles away. They could have been stealing from one and selling to the other, but I guess that was too much work.

Last time I heard, which was awhile ago, scrap steel was $.85 a lb. Since a flatbed can haul about 40,000 lbs that's almost $35k.

NEW CASTLE, Pa. (AP) - Authorities in western Pennsylvania say two brothers have been arrested in the theft of a bridge.

Police allege that 24-year-old Benjamin Arthur Jones and 25-year-old Alexander William Jones of New Castle used a blowtorch to break up the Covert's Crossing Bridge sometime between Sept. 27 and Oct. 5. They face felony charges of criminal mischief, theft, receiving stolen property and conspiracy.

The $100,000 privately owned and rarely used Lawrence County bridge was in a wooded area along a railroad line about 60 miles north of Pittsburgh. Authorities say the thieves apparently wanted to sell the corrugated steel for scrap.

The defendants remained in custody pending a preliminary hearing Thursday; listed numbers for them could not be found Saturday and it was unclear whether they had attorneys.

Thats the thing. These scrappers will do $10,000 damage to a building for a couple hundred bucks of scrap. So many of these empty foreclosed houses are never again going to be habitable because of scrappers.

I gather the quote was from UK , bad enough Copper theives stealing cable from the railways but the theft of the war memorial plaques & cemetary plaques in 1 particular town has cost many 1000`s of £ to replace but was only worth around $20 in scrap .
