10 pack of ramen noodles is like 2 bucks .A 20 lb bag of rice about 8 bucks.Buy 1 get 1 free on meat .....chicken ,pork,beef..Cook some meat and rice ,and eat this every night.
If possible harvest your own rainwater, use a bicycle to travel as many places as you can.

Cancel your cable service ,and cancel your home phone service and get magic jack.Dowload all music ,movies ,and Tv shows from the internet ,most tv sucks so you'll be watching only good stuff anyhow..If its warm where you are ,turn off the gas or oil service ,and take only cold showers. These are some of the things i do.You get used to it after awhile and it becomes no big deal.

Ramen can actually be made to taste pretty good. I use hosin sauce and sauteed chicken usually with some chili paste and maybe some scrambled eggs thrown in if you are adventurous. Pigeon is really good as is duck and rabbit all of which you can raise yourself with little extra cost if you are so inclined.

Hempyguy is right on track. Dry beans are better than canned. You can throw in a hunk of seasoning for flavor or a dash of olive oil for health. Good point about brown rice, much healthier than the bleached stuff.

Great thing about beans is the fiber plus adding rice delivers complex carbs which are healthier than simple carbs.

It's easy to get beaned out. Potatoes in 5, 10, and 20 lb sacks are way cheaper than individual bake prices. Potatoes can be prepared many different ways. You're not as likely to get tired of taters as beans. Hell, I'm Irish. I could eat potatoes with every meal, lol.

You need green produce in your diet and there's not many inexpensive options here. Fresh green beans take some of the monotony out of shelled. If you eat salads, iceberg lettuce is usually the least nutritious. Leaf lettuce usually has more fiber and nutritional value than head lettuce. Cabbage is cheap and versatile. Add some rice for Chinese or serve it home cooked with your beans. Steamed cabbage in a frying pan w/ a dash of oil and Worcestershire is very tasty. Lots of slaw potential.:)

DO YOUR OWN COOKING!

eating out or buying processed food is not only unhealthy but very expensive. (lazyness always is)

i can cook a large 100% organic/bio meal for 2-3 people for under €4,-

take your fav. grain (like quinoa, buckwheat, etc.) + roast some sliced fresh veggies + crumble feta cheese on top of it = healthy, tasty goodness! :D

Not sure what your situation is, but if you are in immediate dire financial situation everything you described is a good start (watching electric usage, etc), maybe time to start thinking about getting rid of any expensive toys you've acquired also?

Longer term, get a second (or first job)..If your on this website you have probably grown in the past or currently grow...Hustle some of your harvest if you can do it safely and smartly.

Can someone give me ideas on how to save some $$$ in my house hold?

For starters i will be eating lots of these now:

012.JPG

buying prepared foods (even beans) is spendy, buy a sack of potatoes to save yourself some real money & to fill the void. When I wound up in MN back in '88 I was near broke & on the run mostly from myself, one of the first good deals I found was a guy on the side of the road selling potatoes, 100#s for $5.00! Scrounging up enough money for potato toppings over the next month or so was easy, I certainly had a full belly. You can dress a tater a hundred different ways and they microwave nicely for easy fixin'.......

Hell yes to the dried beans advice here. You can get a 20-pound bag of pinto beans for about $12--a LOT of quality protein and fiber for very little money. You can make your own baked beans, chili, and so on for practically nothing. Also, why say no to a good burger? Again, make your own; the total cost of ingredients in your own quarter-pounder is probably about a buck. I can get a pound of grass-fed ground beef for under $3; that's a few burgers right there, way better than the fast-food ones.

I buy my produce at Mexican markets, but there are lots of those in my area. It's much cheaper than at any chain grocery, easily half the price. Ethnic markets tend to cost less. I also shop at a discount market (Grocery Outlet), where milk, bread, tortillas, and other staple items are significantly cheaper.

As someone else noted, eggs are a great, cheap source of protein. Actually, we assimilate the protein from eggs more easily than from any other source, or so I've read. The most perfect form of protein.
