Rumors about a kill switch test on 9/11

A test might happen soon that would shut down web and cell phone communications.

Kind of handy when your oppressing the people...


When the shit hits the fan and a serious crackdown is planned you can be sure they will use this to make sure no videos will be sent by cell phone or internet.

i was in Nepal in 03 or 04 cant rememer but they were having a Maoist revolution and when things heated up they shut down all communication for nearly 2 weeks.

It was more to stop the rebels from organizing than to keep record of events going public; when it happens at home the main objective will be keeping it quiet.

This will happen in the U.S.

We already gave Obama the power to use it in the name of protection from hi tech threats

Rumors of an underground free communications network coming from this but i can't see that being able to fight off attacks on it's system from the big boys.

i lived well before the advent of technology and I have been in the industry since it emerged

I don't sweat creations of mankind, I built my life on a different foundation and technology has little meaning to me now

Seriously though I highly doubt this exists or is even possible. How could anyone have a single switch connected to every ISP provider in the world? No government is that powerful including our own

So basically this bill authorizes the president to have the power to ASK private companies to disconnect themselves from the internet on their own if there is some threat detected. It doesn't give him the power to unilaterally turn off everyone's internet on his own, just gives him/her the authority to use to government to advise companies that they might want to shut it down due to an assessed threat. But these companies are still free to act as they want, they can listen or not it's up to them.
