i took the dish down when my first grandson was born. there ARE shows that i like (i own all of south park on dvd) but IMHO the shit on tv is mind numbing for the most part. reality shows are a trainwreck, and i don't really care what they are about ...... having a camera follow you around all day is not a reality i would choose and it may sound harsh but i really wonder WTF is wrong with people who need or want that much attention. fuck the paycheck .....my privacy is priceless

Even discovery channel is a glorified reality tv station, the news is always slanted and there are more repeats on tv than new shows.

OOOOOhhhhh,Seinfeld, a super show in my opinion.
I'm into the HBO series stuff, Entourage was cool a few years ago then it started to get boring and dull, this last season was a fucking joke, you could've watched the last episode and figured everything else out inbetween.
Curb your Enthusiasm is hilarious, Boardwalk Empire is pretty good so far this season.

The old days of great TV are gone for good, 'The Dean Martin Variety Show', 'The Smothers Brothers', Johnny Carson, Flip Wilson, 'Laugh In'..... sitcoms like 'I Love Lucy', 'The Honeymooners', 'M*A*S*H', 'All in the Family', 'Sanford & Son', 'Cheers', 'The Addams Family', 'The Munsters', 'Andy Griffith', 'Gomer Pyle USMC' all gone and replaced with what?

Yeah, I agree with the consensus that most of the networks carry and are gravitating toward reality trash tv shows.
In order to get the good stuff you have to have the top tier of channels, basic cable is for the idiocracy world.

Since Stargate Universe got cancelled the only thing I watch on tv is baseball. And baseball's over....so when I'm not working I'm either on the internet or watching my Stargate DVDs or a movie, haha.
I do have a few new books, but I never seem to find the time... Needa take a vacation or some shit. Always read a lot on vacations when I'm not doing stuff. No time or money right now, though. Maybe next year...

I rigged up a solution for this to cut TV from the budget while remaining able to watch downloaded shows on the big screen.
1) Ran ethernet underneath baseboards along walls. One end near the router the other ends at TVs.
2) $80 XBMC w/ 320GB Hard Drive plugged in to the ethernet.
3) Download Games/Expensive Software/etc all legit for $96/yr for usenet through astraweb.
The result: Choice in my consumption of TV/movies. The XBMC works as an old school arcade, too. Been really happy with consuming information from all over.
