Looks like the national media has picked up on it.

CORPUS CHRISTI — A video that allegedly shows a Texas county judge repeatedly hitting his teenage daughter with a belt because of her Internet use has prompted a police investigation.

Rockport, Texas, Police Chief Tim Jayroe said Wednesday that the probe was launched after numerous calls from people who saw the video uploaded onto YouTube.

The investigation will look into claims by Hillary Adams, who says she set up the camera in 2004 to catch what she called frequent beatings by her father, Aransas County Court-at-Law Judge William Adams.

Jayroe said he has not determined the identities of the people in the video nor whether any crimes were committed.

The seven-minute, profanity laced video shows a man hitting a girl repeatedly with what appears to be a belt-like object during an ordeal that started over her downloading music online, NBC News affiliate KRIS-TV in Corpus Christi reported on its website.

The video was posted Oct. 27, but picked up national attention after being posted on the Internet site Reddit.

The video had 300 hits Tuesday evening. As of 8:30 a.m. Wednesday, it had 225,000. A few hours later, the video topped 500,000, according to KRISTV.

William Adams admitted that he was shown in the video.

"It happened years ago ... I apologized," William Adams told KRISTV.com.

When asked if he thought the conduct in the video was excessive, the judge said, "It's not as bad as it looks on tape."

I wonder how many years she suffered this type of abuse, being terrorized by the same/only people you know should be protecting you. How could she ever approach her folks w/a problem for fear of blame and punishment being dished out on her. Imagine never being sure of what you say that will set that tyrant off.......

i remember my great grandmother used to beat me with switches and broom sticks, i mean, a bloody mess when she was done. seeing that video invokes such rage for someone to do that so spitefully. if you watch his posturing and body language, he's enjoying bullying her. especially when he starts backhanding her with the belt lashings.

apparently, hes getting death threats. which im ok with. only a coward torments the meek.

at least she has it on tape

so many other people go through torture (beatings, humiliation, rape) and no ones knows about it

very sad thing

ABUSIVE HITTING HAS BAD LONG-TERM EFFECTS

Research has shown that spanking may leave scars deeper and more lasting than a fleeting redness of the bottom. Here is a summary of the research on the long-term effects of corporal punishment:
  • In a prospective study spanning nineteen years, researchers found that children who were raised in homes with a lot of corporal punishment, turned out to be more antisocial and egocentric, and that physical violence became the accepted norm for these children when they became teenagers and adults.
  • College students showed more psychological disturbances if they grew up in a home with less praise, more scolding, more corporal punishment, and more verbal abuse.
  • A survey of 679 college students showed that those who recall being spanked as children accepted spanking as a way of discipline and intended to spank their own children. Students who were not spanked as children were significantly less accepting of the practice than those who were spanked. The spanked students also reported remembering that their parents were angry during the spanking; they remembered both the spanking and the attitude with which it was administered.
  • Spanking seems to have the most negative long-term effects when it replaces positive communication with the child. Spanking had less damaging long-term effects if given in a loving home and nurturing environment.
  • A study of the effects of physical punishment on children's later aggressive behavior showed that the more frequently a child was given physical punishment, the more likely it was that he would behave aggressively toward other family members and peers. Spanking caused less aggression if it was done in an overall nurturing environment and the child was always given a rational explanation of why the spanking occurred.
  • A study to determine whether hand slapping had any long-term effects showed that toddlers who were punished with a light slap on the hand showed delayed exploratory development seven months later.
  • Adults who received a lot of physical punishment as teenagers had a rate of spouse-beating that was four times greater than those whose parents did not hit them.
  • Husbands who grew up in severely violent homes are six times more likely to beat their wives than men raised in non-violent homes.
  • More than 1 out of 4 parents who had grown up in a violent home were violent enough to risk seriously injuring their child.
  • Studies of prison populations show that most violent criminals grew up in a violent home environment.
  • The life history of notorious, violent criminals, murderers, muggers, rapists, etc., are likely to show a history of excessive physical discipline in childhood.
The evidence against spanking is overwhelming. Hundreds of studies all come to the same conclusions:
1. The more physical punishment a child receives, the more aggressive he or she will become.
2. The more children are spanked, the more likely they will be abusive toward their own children.
3. Spanking plants seeds for later violent behavior.4.Spanking doesn't work.

Why did you post this paper?

This so called research stigmatizes the victims, and i don't believe it. speaking as somebody who went through years of horrors but "always" knew i would "never" act like that.

They might have a point about anger management but it's rare things get physical since high school daze.

Just think that study is bullshit anybody else on here who took it but never gave it out, especially with ones children.

its a scientific study and those are the results... Its a fact that it causes long term effects, doesnt mean that it makes you nuts just that you would have turned out differently if it hadnt happen... some people can get through it and live a happy life....

others never get that chance, and it fucks them up for life. I dont think this stigmatizes the victims it just shows the research. Truth is scary but ignoring it dont make it better.

i think that specific article confuses the line between spanking and abuse...

i said fuck you to my grandmother once when i was 10. she did not abuse me but i only made the mistake once...

spanking is a tool that can be used properly. or abused like any other tool.

Calling that generalized summary, the results of a scientific study is a stretch.

Results would be full of figures that would give a clear picture of how people tested one could read that and say nobody will be able to beark that cycle they are doomed.

A tad insensetive to back up such a thin scientific study:moon:

That's my anger comin out go get that belt, the big one hehe

Anybody watch the Queen Elizabeth/ Prince Philip skit on SNL? Their royal manner is surreptitious. In reality they're cockney thugs.

IMO, the guy should be prosecuted for aggravated circumstances. He was in full stride lashing the belt's entire length like a whip.

Like the SNL bit, this guy risks being exposed as a sociopath. I don't care if it was Elmer Fudd, anybody walking in the room would have made this guy pretend to be sane.

This guy is the worst kind of crazy and the video got his ass. It's the modern day equivalent of a frying pan up side the head as he slept.

Holy fuck, I almost cried because I was bare slapped with just about anything numerous times where my parents fought over who is "more mad" and wants to punish me more.

My parents were like stay still and giving me hard whacks waiting in between for me to beg for what I have done wrong delightfully psychoticly slow for me to worry about the next hit.

This enables me to be psychotic or sadistic, which is to destroy something. This detachment happens quickly from birth though, but is a recurring thing between the Iconoclast and the supporter/abused (mother) of the iconoclast.

I am not blaming my parents, although they are slaves to their ways still. I know that everyone is a slave to how they were trained socially, unless they realize all archtypes and modes and ways of thinking which is used in splitting of the ego. Then they are either a psychopath(reptile brain) or extremely helpful (mammal brain) like Jesus was.

i'm so sorry for anyone that's gone through that on and on and on before

i got my ass whooped a few times but it was just punishment and believe me, looking back i deserved much worse

both of my parents got the crap beat out of each other, mom worse so with her sick sexually abusive step dad...they were both so careful with us growing up and i feel it's due to this kind of crap (and worse) happening to them

hearing the stories from my mom then seeing this, it's just horrible, i hope and pray that anyone struggling with these kinds of demons from abuse can break free of it all
