Snowstorm in october...who would have thought??

Ive got a 5x5 tent with 1 kw HPS, 6 5foot ladies that are at day 30 of flower. I have already missed 1 12:12 cycle due to weather outages, and it may be days before power is restored.

Cant find a generator anywhere, and even if I could I don't think I have the cash to afford one.

How fucked am I with this crop? What will days of darkness do to these plants?

I did think about just switching cycles, and letting them get light, even indirect light that comes in from the windows, but that is not really possible for many reasons.

A day won't make much difference but a week will. Battery powered fluorescent lanterns to keep the light cycle correct will help. You will also need air flow to avoid humidity problems. Generator is the only real answer.

it depends on how many days, also if pots are just watered be careful with fungus make shure to apply trichoderms so you wont have any loss due to botytis or root rot for example.
just tell your plants that a giant "cloud" is blocking the "sun" just like an outdoor tempest.

I've had nanner explosions after just a couple days of power being out. I wish I had a suggestion for you here, since the generator idea is out...do you have any trusted friends who also grow that you can leave them with? If not, you may just have to cut your losses with this one my friend...

Don't "cut you losses" assuming that means trash the grow. Just wait it out and finish it off, especially if you have nothig else, you will still harvest lots of buds. Even if it hermies, it's not like the bud is now poisonous or anything. There are lots of us who smoked for decades picking seeds out of our buds. There's even a school of thought that maintains seeded bud is more potent than unseeded. Not my school necessarily, but it is out there.

propane heater is another good add on to keep the temps regulated... hopefully also helping the rh from spiking.

No fluorescent battery lanterns can be found anywhere. Am I ok using propane lanterns? The Coleman ones with mantles?

Propane lanterns might work. no idea about the spectrum though. Will make heat, and moisture.
Do you own a car? buy a power inverter and you got yourself a generator.
I've only used a small one to recharge stuff in my car, but apparently there are 2000w versions. I doubt its possible, but you might be able to power your light and some fans with a car. Definitely run some CFLs though.

I would drive as far as neccessarry to aquire a battery ran flouro lantern or whatever solution, but basically I would be making ground.

don't know your situation but can you just take them out of the tent and put them in the middle of the room? mother nature is running the flower cycle right now anyway. it's shitty light, but windows work when the power goes out.

don't risk starting a fire with those lanterns. from what i have heard grow tents burn really good.

Well, for all intents and purposes just ended up switching cycles. Moved everything I have (flowering, vegging and moms) to a room that gets some sun most of the day. Hope that works out. :(

i think gardenbug is on the right path but you can get bye without generator. any battery powered light can maintain 12/12, keep the tent open and manually fan air, stop watering and hold the nutes because plants metabolism will slow but should recover.

Warm and some light somehow, even a window this time of year is something. Wish for the best and keep them warm. I lost my power last year and had to use t5's but kept the light schedule and kept them warm. Slowed down but they lived.

A computer style ups just won't last long enough. Only a few hours with just small fluorescents.
From some old notes "The formula to calculate backup time is Volts x Battery Amp Hours / Watts"

DC to AC inverter/charger such as this http://www.amazon.com/gp/product/B000MD5XIE

A deep cycle battery
Some fluorescent bulbs

Automatic battery backup for small lights, pumps, fans, etc. Runs things and charges itself off line power when available and turns on when the power goes out.

Honda inverter generator is the best way to go for being without power for a week.

power is back on after 4 days...

temps have been in the 40s to 50s, and just reverted my light cycle back to 12:12 from six pm to six am...had the ladies in a room that gets sun during the daylight hours.

Hope things turn out all right..

Next big purhcase will be a whole house propane powered genny!
